Malaysian passport to come with 10-year validity
Passport renewal trips to the immigration office are about to be less frequent for Malaysian citizens. The Malaysian government has announced that it will not only be rolling out a newly-designed Malaysian passport with 94 upgraded security features, but there will also be a 10-year validity period for it as well, up from the current 5-year period.
New gazetted fee structure for passport renewals & replacements
Based on a newly-introduced gazetted fee structure that was published under the Federal Government Gazette on 3rd June 2026, the Malaysian passport with a 10-year validity period is set to come with some changes.

Passport with 94 upgraded security features
Besides having a new look, upcoming Malaysians passports will come with significantly strengthened security features as part of the government’s efforts to enhance national identification.
The upgraded version will come equipped with 94 security features, double the number of the current passport, to ensure tougher safety measures. These features include enhanced holograms, ultraviolet printing, hidden visual elements, and additional anti-forgery features.
Fewer trips to immigration offices with a 10-year Malaysian passport
While there has been no confirmed date for Malaysians to apply for the upgraded passports, or when Malaysians can apply for a 10-year validity passport, it’s certainly something to look forward to for future travels. There’ll be less visits to the immigration offices, too.
