Bakehouse by KLCG at Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad
Standing tall since 1897, and briefly closed last year, Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad (BSAS) has officially reopened its doors to the public on 2nd February 2026.
Beyond the galleries and interactive experiences, there’s something else drawing the crowds – that is, good food in a historic setting. One such restaurant, well-loved by fellow Malaysians, is Bakehouse by KLCG, which opened their doors again after the closure of their first branch in 2024.
Bakehouse by KLCG’s homecoming at BSAS
KLCG’s first branch.
KLCG first started their dine-in journey right here in Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, marking a new chapter after first operating as a bread shop in Taman Midah. The brand closed in 2024 when restoration works on the historical building began. Since then, regulars have been hopping between their Jalan Ampang and Medan Pasar outlets.
Now Bakehouse by KLCG has made its comeback on the ground floor of the building, and it truly feels like a homecoming.
Step inside and you’re instantly greeted by that familiar, comforting scent of freshly-baked pastries. The indoor seating lets you soak in the cosy bakehouse atmosphere, surrounded by displays of golden croissants and glossy tarts calling your name.
If you prefer something more scenic, the outdoor seating is where you can enjoy sunlight and breeze as you admire the stunning architecture of the building. Overlooking the lush green field of Dataran Merdeka, you’ll have front row views of the towering Jalur Gemilang, proudly standing where history was made.
An upgraded bakehouse experience
This outlet has a slightly different concept compared to the bakery’s branches at Jalan Ampang and Medan Pasar.
Here, patrons will be using self-order kiosks to place their orders. The system is fuss-free and efficient, as it tells you the amount of fresh pastries left before making your pick.
Upon entering, we chose our spots, headed to the kiosk, and placed our orders, all with zero hassle, which was good news for our rumbling tummies.
What’s on the menu at Bakehouse by KLCG
As the bakery is currently in their soft-launch phase, the menu is slightly limited. For now, there are pastries, focaccias, and bagels being served as mains.
Fret not, as KLCG’s crowd-favourite items are on the menu. The consistently sold-out pain au chocolat (RM10.90), and tarts starting from RM12.90, are available, alongside a range of drinks, including coffee classics and refreshing mocktails.
We enjoyed their best-seller, the pain au chocolat, with its paper-thin layers, crunchy exterior and fluffy, soft interior. Another item we tried was their blueberry tart. Decorated with blueberries on top, paired with cream in the middle, this pastry is suitable for everyone, as it wasn’t overwhelming with sweetness.
This branch also features three specials, and they are Matcha Soft-Serve (RM15.90), PB Cocoa Bowl (RM24.90) and the Tropical Dragon Fruit Bowl (RM24.90). If you’re looking for a sweet and healthy treat, pop in to Bakehouse by KLCG to try these specials.

Another thing to note is that the famous mochi fraisier isn’t available at this BSAS outlet. If you’re really craving it, the Medan Pasar branch is just a 5-minute walk away, so you can consider it a mini dessert hunt across KL’s most historic district.
Feast your stomach & your eyes at Bakehouse by KLCG
After you’re done admiring the grand architecture, exploring the museums, and soaking in the history of Dataran Merdeka, Bakehouse by KLCG is the perfect pitstop to treat yourself to some pastries and coffee.
With its slew of signature pastries and upcoming new exclusive specials, KLCG’s return to BSAS feels not only like a full-circle moment in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, but also an experience of Malaysian culture through food.
