Even if you’re not chronically online, you’ve likely come across viral TikTok videos of noodles hand-pulled extra wide and doused in chilli oil. Biang Biang noodles – which are swung in the air, smacked against a table, boiled in hot water, and then bathed with chilli oil – is the name of these tempting noods.

At Biang Biang Noodle Bar, which has two branches in Klang Valley, you can slurp up this China-famous, hand-pulled, oil-poured noodles that’s made to order. Read on to find out what you can order at the noodle bar, including their popular lamb noodles seasoned with chilli flakes and cumin.


Noodles from China that go biang, biang, biang


Biang Biang operates a branch at SS2 in Petaling Jaya and a Biang Biang Express kiosk at REXKL near Petaling Street. The latter is their latest venture, which has been up and running for over 3 months. It’s also a strictly no pork and no alcohol branch.

The owner of the noodle bar is 29-year-old Liew Xian Jiong, who sought to bring the spectacle of Biang Biang noodles from China’s Shaanxi province to Malaysia.

The story behind the uniquely-named noodles goes like this – in ancient China, a scholar strapped for cash and hungry struck a deal with a food vendor. In exchange for a free meal, he had to come up with a name for the stall. Upon hearing the sound of noodles smacking the table, he created a new Chinese character – biang biang. And the rest is history.

Biang Biang Noodle Bar joins other noodle bars around the world that famously smack and stretch Biang Biang noodles to order. In each noodle bowl they serve, you can fish out three wide strips of 1.2m-long noodles that’ll feel like pulling a handkerchief out from a magician’s hat – that’s how long they are.

Dry & soupy Biang Biang noodles


Whether you prefer something dry or soupy, Biang Biang Noodle Bar will have something for you.

Their signature noodles is the Spicy Cumin Lamb Biang Biang (RM18.90). Tender lamb leg in the dish is marinated with a secret blend of spices that gives the dish a burst of flavours. The extra-wide and extra-thicc noodles are satisfyingly chewy and springy, and thoroughly soaks up the spicy sauce well.

You can also adjust the spice levels in your noodles – there are three levels of spiciness to choose from.

For something mild, the Tomato Egg Biang Biang (RM13.90) features noodles that soak up a Xi’an-style egg-and-tomato sauce.

Over on the soup noodles list, there are options such as Coriander Basil Soup Biang Biang (RM15.90) with a green-hued, velvety-smooth, and minty-fresh broth and Pickled Mustard Fish Soup Biang Biang (RM18.90) featuring bite-sized cubes of cucumber bathed in aromatic chilli oil.
