Big Bad Wolf Book Sale Is Back In KL Till 2nd Jan, Has Up To 95% Off 3.5 Million Books

Big Bad Wolf Book Sale in KL

Bookworms can likely relate to having stacks of unread books at home. But that doesn’t mean we can’t spoil ourselves with more new finds – especially when they are sold at low prices. Enter the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale in KL.

From now till 2nd January 2023, the popular book sale is making its return to MINES International Exhibition & Convention Centre (MIECC) with up to 95% off a whopping 3.5 million book titles.

We dropped by the book sale recently to bring you this guide on what you can expect there – sifting through a variety of book genres and snagging freebies included.

3.5 million book titles with major discounts

Whether you’re hunting out your next read, or aspiring to read more this new year, the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale has plenty of book titles from a variety of genres up for grabs.

After two years, the book sale is returning to MIECC with over 3.5 million books. It also opens from 10am till 2am daily from now till 2nd January, so you can pop in and browse for books even after supper – whether just for fun or if you have some last-minute Christmas gift shopping to get done.

Almost every book genre can be found here – from children’s and young adult fiction, to art history and science – all neatly sorted into categories and stacked on tables. We spotted popular book-turn-Netflix-adaption titles, such as The Queen’s Gambit (RM13.99) by Walter Tevis and P.S. I Still Love You (RM10.99) by Jenny Han.

The main exhibition hall at MIECC won’t be the only place in the building to sniff out books.

In the lobby, you’ll find an array of graphic novels from local publishers such as GEMPAKSTARZ. Among the neatly stacked comic book piles, we spotted Bahasa Melayu translations of Japanese novels, Your Name (RM18) and Weathering With You (RM12), which anime fans will easily recognise too.

Other Malaysian publishers joining the book sale include Pelangi and Kualiti Books, bringing with them a variety of educational and entertainment Malay-language books.

New pricing system and freebies to claim

Spot these helpful buying guides with prices that lets you easily find books of different genres.

Instead of the usual price tags, there’s a new pricing system at the latest Big Bad Wolf Book Sale. An alphabet, or set of letters, on a “Paw Tag” sticker on each book correspond to a price on a pricing chart – find titles from as low as RM1 to as high as RM439.99 categorised as “A” and “UUU” respectively.

There are pricing charts located all around the store for your convenient reference. You can also scan a QR code on the chart to pull up the price list on your phone.

As most books are plastic-wrapped at the book sale, stumbling upon an interesting title you want to flip through before heading to the cashier is a likely scenario. If so, you can approach a helpful staff member at the Customer Service counter and request it to be unsealed if there are no sample copies around.

Besides books, there are several freebies to snag while you’re shopping here too.

These include abstract-design bookmarks you can claim when you share a creative photo of yourself at the KL book sale on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, with the hashtag #bbwphoto. You can get a complimentary Big Bad Wolf Books tote bag (U.P. RM4.90) too, if you spend over RM120 in a single receipt.

To sweeten the deals, there’s also a lucky draw with a chance for you to win a RM50 voucher, or a trolley full of books if you spend RM200 in a single receipt.

Sip on coffee and shop for last-minute Christmas gifts

If you start to feel peckish while book hunting, there are several eateries inside the exhibition hall. Besides Tealive and Pizza Hut, there is Laiyan, a pop-up coffee shop operated by three siblings, that serves lattes, bagels and nasi lemak. There are several tables set up in front of their coffee stand, where you can rest your legs in between your book shopping spree.

Those looking for last-minute Christmas gifts can stop by the pop-up stalls located just beyond the cashier area. Browse for fun and affordable items that make for great stocking stuffers, such as button badges (RM4/pc) and magnets (RM15 for 3) with quirky images of foods, emojis, and popular characters.

There are posters (RM12/pc) of recognisable franchises too, such as Spy Family and Gundam, with a buy 2 free 1 deal.

As Christmas marks a season of giving, Big Bad Wolf Books has partnered with NGOs, Friends to Mankind Malaysia’s The Book Effect and Project AIME, to donate books to local orphanages. To do your part, you can pick out books, pay for them at a designated Red Readerhood cashier, and drop them into the donation box.

For more personalised gifts, head to the Red Readerhood corner to pick up a wish-gift card – these contain the name and interests of a resident from the homes.
