Employee questioned by boss for requesting sick leave
Asking for an off day from work when you’re feeling under the weather is always recommended when it hinders productivity levels or puts others at risk of getting ill. Most employers let their staff take a day off without much of a fuss. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for a particular employee, who said that their boss had questioned them for being able to visit a clinic to request for an MC slip for stomach ailments, despite not feeling well enough to show up for work.
Boss questions employee’s sick leave
The employee shared a photo of the Whatsapp conversation that took place with their boss on 7th April 2021 to Facebook group, æš´èµ°å“¡å·¥ Boom Go Employee. Here, netizens often submit their funny and unfortunate workplace tales anonymously with others.
The conversation in Chinese between the 2 starts off with the employee requesting for a day off due to medical reasons. When their boss asked for the reason, they answered that they were experiencing bouts of diarrhoea and vomiting, and suspected that they were down with food poisoning.Â

Like most bosses, their employer requested for a medical certificate, or MC slip. Issued by clinics and signed by doctors, these serve as a confirmation slip to let employers know if their workers are indeed unfit or unwell to come in for work for the day.
However, when the employee sent over a screenshot of the MC slip, the boss proceeded to question them, asking why they had been able to visit a clinic but not show up for work.Â

Netizens share their own medical leave stories
The post, which has garnered over 1,000 reactions and 600 shares at the time of writing, had many pointing out the boss’s flaw in logic because they were the one who asked the OP to get an MC slip.
One netizen commented, “[You] know that I’m unwell, yet [you] asked me to go and get the MC.”

Another Facebook user commented that they had a similar experience. When they were down with an upset stomach, their boss had even requested that they return to the workplace to submit their MC slip.

Boss questioned employee who was on sick leave
It’s difficult to stay productive when you’re down with a bug, even if it’s a not-so-serious ailment such as an upset stomach. So we hope that employers can be more understanding to let employees take a day off if they are feeling unwell, and not question why they were able to go to the clinic and not turn up for work, especially if they are the ones who requested that their employee submit an MC slip.Â
