New cafes & restaurants to try in January 2025

We may have ushered in another new year, but our same ol’ love for food and discovering new places to try them remains. If this describes you to a tee, we compiled a list of new cafes and restaurants in KL and Selangor to try this January 2025, so you can plan your cafe visits easily amid the slew of new openings in our neighbourhoods.

1. Chicken & Beer

Fried chicken and beer specialists in PJ

Chicken and beer is an unbeatable combo, akin to peanut butter and jelly on toast – think sinking your teeth into golden-crispy chicken and washing down each bite with crisp beer. That’s exactly what you’ll get at Chicken & Beer, PJ’s latest restaurant that specialises in, well, chicken and beer.

The fried chicken joint has their menu separated into Main Chicks, Sharing Platters, and Snacks. Depending on who you’re tagging for a meal here, you can go for options like the 2-piece CB Golden Crispy (RM19.90) or the group-friendly CB Ultimate Platter (RM39.90).

All orders of fried chicken come with various sides such as coleslaw and french fries, and the option to enjoy the chicken as is, golden crispy, or further seasoned with an in-house red hot sauce.

As for beer, Chicken & Beer partnered with homegrown brewery Paper Kite to bring craft beers to their patrons. If you’re the designated driver in your group, there are non-alcoholic “beer” (RM16.90) options too so you won’t feel left out, including Pu’er Honey and Yuzu Oolong which both boast a creamy, frothy finish.
