According to Huang, the average daily temperatures recorded in Cameron Highlands tipped at 18.91°C. While this remains cooler than in areas like the Klang Valley, this is up from 18.05°C between 1991 and 2020 – an observed average rise of 0.86.

Cameron Highlands has also seen a total of 649 landslide incidents since 1961 to the present day.

To help preserve the environment Cameron Highlands, the Malaysia Minerals and Geoscience Department (JMG) has crafted both a Slope Hazard Map and a National Slope Risk Map, spotlighting 45 critical and high-risk slopes. Nineteen critical slopes have been monitored annually since 2021, and alarm bells are set with early warning systems installed at five key locations.

Alongside these actions, the ministry and various stakeholders are monitoring perilous slope issues to mitigate the stark rise in temperatures and shifting precipitation patterns.
