‘Cardcaptor Sakura’ Exhibition First Look – A Flower Room & Huge Kero-chan Installation In KL

Cardcaptor Sakura exhibition in Malaysia

Cardcaptor Sakura may have been released over 20 years ago, but the magical world of Sakura Kinomoto and her companions still has our hearts. If this describes you, we found an exhibition in Malaysia that warrants a visit: Cardcaptor Sakura Exhibition – The Enchanted Museum.

KL’s INCUBASE Studio brings iconic elements of the captivating Japanese manga and anime series to life. Cardcaptor Sakura fans can be charmed by a huge installation of Kero-chan, a themed cafe, and over 200 drawings from the series that’ll have you going “hoeh!”.

Here’s a first look at the exhibition, which opens on 12th April 2025.

All you need to know about the Cardcaptor Sakura exhibition

CARDCAPTOR EXHIBITION IN MALAYSIA - CHAPTERS

The launch of the Cardcaptor Sakura Exhibition – The Enchanted Museum in Malaysia marks its debut in Southeast Asia after an original run in Tokyo in 2018. The Malaysia instalment will open from 12th April to 11th June 2025 at INCUBASE Arena, on Level 2 of Fahrenheit88.

Fans of Cardcaptor Sakura can expect to be dealt a one-of-a-kind experience at the exhibition, with eight zones to wander through. This includes a The Maze of Drawings room displaying over 200 reproductions of illustrations done by CLAMP, the manga group behind the series. Others are themed around Sakura’s most famous cards.

Plan to set aside at least an hour to explore the space and pose for photos at various photo spots. Photography is allowed in every zone except The Maze of Drawings and of certain exhibited items.

To ensure everyone gets to leave with a keepsake, a Stamp Rally sheet is given to each visitor. Once all six character stamps have been collected at various stations in the exhibition, you can redeem a Cardcaptor Sakura clear card designed by CLAMP at the merch shop – but more on that later.

What to expect at the Cardcaptor Sakura exhibition

Here are our favourite spots from the eight zones:

Room of THE FLOWER

CARDCAPTOR EXHIBITION IN MALAYSIA - FLOWER ROOM

Flowers play a huge role in the Cardcaptor Sakura series, and the Room of THE FLOWER captures that. This zone blooms with flowers of all kinds, including the iconic sakura and tranquil marigolds that are featured on canvases and the room’s walls.

CARDCAPTOR EXHIBITION IN MALAYSIA - STICKERS

Each visitor will receive a flower sticker of their choice to paste anywhere in the room, the floor included. This experience gave us major elementary-school-sticker-obsession flashbacks.

THE SIEGE Atelier of Tomoyo

CARDCAPTOR EXHIBITION IN MALAYSIA - FASHION

At THE SIEGE Atelier of Tomoyo zone, there are four elaborate outfits that the preteen Sakura wears as the Cardcaptor brought to life, straight off the pages of the manga. In the series, the costumes and their stylish headpieces are created by Sakura’s best friend, Tomoyo.

Meet THE BIG Kero-chan

CARDCAPTOR EXHIBITION IN MALAYSIA - KERO CHAN

The highlight photo spot awaits at the Meet THE BIG Kero-chan zone, where a larger-than-life, plush installation of Kero-chan is beaming and ready for pictures. This is in line with the lore of the manga, when Sakura uses one of her spells to enlarge Kero-chan with a The Big card.

Room of THE RECORD

CARDCAPTOR EXHIBITION IN MALAYSIA - BALL PIT

More photo ops await at the Room of THE RECORD, including a fun Kero-chan ball pit that you can enter without your shoes for photos. Around the room are other fun, nostalgic bits and bobs centred around the manga. There’s a wall that documents the history of Cardcaptor Sakura from its inception in 1996 to 2018, as well as glass boxes holding gifts that came with Cardcaptor-themed Nakayosi, a monthly shoju manga magazine, back in the day.

There are also manga volumes that you can flip through. Some of them have character cards tucked within, so you’ll have fun easter egg to discover as you go down the line.

A merch shop and themed cafe

At the end of your visit, you can shop for Cardcaptor Sakura goods imported from Japan at a merchandise store. We found adorable items like Kero-chan plush keychains (RM28) and a wand collection in acrylic magnet (RM18) form. There’s also a photo booth with frames inspired by the manga – two printed photos cost RM25.

Don’t forget to drop by the themed cafe, a new area at INCUBASE Arena. Though small, it manages to churn out a menu of almost-too-pretty-to-eat desserts and drinks inspired by the series. For starters, there’s Sakura Snowberry (RM32), a strawberry-based bingsu decorated with marshmallows and strawberry slices, and Spinny Sweets (RM26.90), a not-too-sweet brownie topped with taro ice cream.
