This December, Malaysians can enjoy the Roald Dahl classic as a musical: the Broadway production of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory premieres in Malaysia at Jeffrey Cheah Performing Arts Centre (JCPAC).

The musical adaptation of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory is heavily inspired by the 1971 film of the same name, with a plot that doesn’t stray far from its beloved source material and songs such as I’ve Got A Golden Ticket and The Candy Man performed by actors on stage.

Upon obtaining a coveted golden ticket, the unlikely Charlie Bucket and his grandfather get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit chocolatier Willy Wonka’s fantastical – and mysterious – chocolate factory, bumping into all sorts of colourful characters and magic along the way.

Charlie And The Chocolate Factory – The Musical makes its way to Malaysia for the first time, with multiple showings taking place at Jeffrey Cheah Performing Arts Centre’s The Grand Theatre from 22nd December to 10th January 2027.
The Malaysia production – made possible by Broadway International Group, Broadway Asia, and Sunway South Quay Sdn Bhd – is part of the musical’s Asia tour schedule. Shows are also planned for Singapore, Manila, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Hainan, Taipei, and Seoul.
The musical runs every night from 22nd December onwards, with a break on 28th December 2026 and 4th January 2027, and matinees on 25th, 26th, and 27th December, and 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 9th, and 10th January 2027.

No stranger to the Broadway scene, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory – The Musical was first staged in 2017, with over 300 shows now performed.
In Malaysia, audiences can tap their toes to original music by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, marvel at backdrops done by magic and illusion designer Tim Clothier, and be wowed by the cast on stage.

The wonderfully whimsical world of Willy Wonka will be brought to life with scrumptious stage designs and costumes, with the beloved adventure of Charlie and songs all part of the play. And if the sets aren’t mesmerising enough, the production also incorporates special effects and hologauze 3D technology to further capture the imaginative world of Willy Wonka.
