It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Malaysia, as the best part of the holiday season has now arrived – festive holiday decorations that are lighting up shopping malls with twinkling lights and merry shades of red, white, and green.
While we have rainy days in Malaysia in place of snowy ones in Hallmark movies, you can still feel like you’re in a winter wonderland at these shopping malls listed below that have some of the best Christmas decor in Klang Valley.

1. Suria KLCC
Malaysia’s tallest Christmas tree

Christmas trees are not just something to place gifts under, and Suria KLCC is here to prove that. The KL shopping mall has a massive 100-foot-tall tree as the highlight of their Christmas display. To put this into perspective, it holds the title of “tallest Christmas tree replica in Malaysia”, standing around 4 storeys tall.
Around this time each year, the towering tree – decked in a thousand or so lights and baubles – returns to its spot between the main fountain at the mall’s outdoor Esplanade and KL’s iconic Petronas Twin Towers. There’s no bad angle of the tree no matter where you stand, so come prepped with a fully charged phone for a galore of photos.

2. The Gardens Mall
An all-white Christmas mall decor

The Gardens Mall has magical, all-white Christmas decorations to truly make you feel like you’ve escaped to a far-flung winter destination for a white Christmas.

The mall’s The Wishing Forest display has all-white reindeer and owls hiding out among “snowy” foliage while mesmerising rows of snowflakes hang overhead. Clear archways and reflective floors further create the illusion of an icy wonderland – it’ll be fun to just explore the area, even if you’re not a shutterbug.

3. IOI City Mall
Whimsical tree with moving butterflies

As Malaysia’s largest shopping mall, IOI City Mall hardly ever skimps on their festive decorations. For the Christmas season this year, the Putrajaya shopping mall has taken the whimsy route with a pretty-in-pastel display at their LG East Court called Enchanted Christmas Wonderland.

The centrepiece of the mall decor is a larger-than-life installation of a silver Christmas tree. It’s elaborately decorated with colourful baubles, a huge holographic ribbon, and a flurry of whimsy butterflies that flap their wings – they are perfect for IG reels.

4. The Exchange TRX

Instead of the traditional green, The Exchange TRX has a gorgeous Christmas holiday tree in elegant Tiffany blue. Dressed with subtle glittering lights and a jewel-encrusted Bird on a Rock – a treasured icon of Tiffany & Co. – the tree is sure to turn heads from where it prominently stands in the mall’s Central Exchange.
Surrounding the installation are snow-frosted trees and woodland creatures hidden among the foliage, like polar bears and reindeer.

5. Sunway Pyramid

This year, Sunway Pyramid has a kaleidoscope of lights as part of their festive Christmas display. And we’re not talking about multi-coloured lights on trees. They have eccentric tree replicas with a dazzling stained glass finish that illuminates a rainbow of colours.

Aptly called Christmas Colourama, the mall’s vibrant display at LG2 Blue Concourse also has photo-ready corners with stained glass backdrops and shimmering geometric sculptures of holiday-favourites such as the majestic reindeer.

Mid Valley Megamall never fails to impress with their themed Christmas decorations each year. For 2024, they’ve pulled out all the stops for a fairytale-esque Christmas with their A Winter’s Tale display.

You’re meant to feel as if you’ve entered a magical forest at the shopping mall’s Centre Court that has been transformed into a storybook setting. There are even installations of a giant hare and a majestic owl, tucked between towering, decked-out trees, for festive photo ops with the fam and friends.

7. Pavilion KL
Artificial snow and a glitzy Dior installation
Displays with a dash of something extra are often the theme for Pavilion KL’s Christmas decorations. The mall’s past festive spectacles include a Star Wars extravaganza in December 2018, which saw a giant Millennium Falcon replica hovering over the mall’s Centre Court.

This year, they have a golden and glitzy Dior installation at the court – Dior Ball of Dreams. It’s complete with a magical Dior carriage and a dreamy 12m-tall Christmas tree that’s the bell-e of the ball with Dior motifs as ornaments.

The mall’s Christmas enchantment spreads outside to its iconic Crystal Fountain, where a snow show takes place between 8pm to 8.30pm every day, from now till 25th December 2024.

8. 1 Utama Shopping Centre
A castle and topiary animals in a garden space

1 Utama Shopping Centre has decided to bring the outdoors inside for their shoppers this Christmas. The mall’s The Joyful Christmas Garden has a 30-metre Christmas tree adorned with golden fairies and topiary animals decorating a garden-like space. Just behind the tree, a castle facade makes for great photo ops too – Santa Claus makes a stop here for photos too.

Intermark Mall’s Christmas Wonder brings a slice of enchanting Europe to Malaysia with a European-inspired display at the mall’s Ground Atrium. Find a huge Christmas tree surrounded by charming facades of European-style buildings and pop-up vendors offering festive decor pieces, food, and gifts.
On selected days, you can catch string and orchestral performances too.

Pavilion Bukit Jalil is the perfect place to embrace the festive spirit with the whole family this year. The mall plays host to CoComelon Christmas Playland that’s part indoor playground, part Christmas installation.
There’s a bouncy playground and inflatable JJ to decorate the festive space, alongside Christmas trees decked with green, red, and white baubles, altogether creating a magical holiday scene.

It’s not just about Christmas baubles and trees at fahrenheit88. The KL mall has teamed up with Japanese dance team Avantgardey for an avant-garde Starry Christmas – think illustrations of the group’s iconic bobbed look as ornaments on the mall’s huge purple-and-gold tree display.

Pavilion Damansara Heights has a unique tree awaiting shoppers at their A Joyful Christmas setup – a 3.5m-tall tree tower with pretty, green Christmas cookie tins from GPR acting as “pine needles”.
