23,564 New Covid-19 Cases In M’sia On 20th August; Three Consecutive Days Of Cases Breaching 22,000 Mark

23,564 new Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, 20th August


Malaysia has been recording cases breaching the 22,000 mark in the past two days, with high daily number of infections and new records set back-to-back. Today, 20th August 2021, sees yet another record made in 24 hours, with 23,564 new confirmed Covid-19 cases recorded in the country – the highest ever yet since the pandemic struck.


Third day of cases breaching the 22,000 mark


Today’s total of 23,564 new cases sees Selangor recording the most cases in a state nationwide, with 6,974 new cases, as reported by Kementarian Kesihatan Malaysia on 20th August.

Most states now see daily Covid-19 infections surpassing the 1,000 mark. These states and Federal Territory includes Sabah (2,738), Sarawak (2,548), Kedah (1,932), KL (1,652), Penang (1,523), Johor (1,323), Kelantan (1,281) and Perak (1,248).

Negeri Sembilan (608), Melaka (610), Terengganu (521) and Pahang (517) recorded cases below the 1,000s.

Meanwhile, Labuan (1), Putrajaya (24) and Perlis (64) had comparatively low numbers.

The addition of over 23,000 new cases today puts the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country, since the start of the pandemic, at 1,513,024.

Today’s number of infections is the highest daily count in the country too. It’s also the third consecutive day of daily cases hitting a new high.

It surpasses the previous highs in the past two days, with 22,242 cases recorded on 18th August and 22,948 cases on 19th August.

As of 19th August, 29,886,548 individuals in the country who registered to get vaccinated have received at least one vaccine dose.

Of this total, 12,079,978 (37%) have been administered two vaccine doses and are now fully vaccinated, while another 17,806,570 (54.5%) individuals have received one vaccine dose.

Another 517,692 individuals were also vaccinated yesterday (19 Aug), as reported by JKJAV.

The fully vaccinated living in states under Phase One of the National Recovery Plan and beyond are now getting more privileges, such as being allowed to dine out and take up sport and recreational activities again. But with cases reaching new highs in the country, we are reminded to limit outdoor excursions to continue the fight against the pandemic.
