Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy is coming to Malaysia

Malaysian Final Fantasy fans will get to hear the grand soundtrack from across the franchise’s long list of games, played live by an orchestra. The Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy orchestral concert is coming to Kuala Lumpur, with a show at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS, on 6th and 7th November 2027.

Even those who rarely play video games will likely have heard or seen the name Final Fantasy sometime before – the Japanese video game series has been around since 1987.

The video game anthology includes 16 mainline entries, with mainline instalments being standalone role-playing games, each with different settings, plots and main characters, but the franchise is linked by several recurring elements, including game mechanics and recurring character names

The 2027 rendition of the orchestral concert is in conjunction with the game franchise’s 40th anniversary, and will kick off globally across Asia, North America, and Europe.

In line with the theme of the Eternal / 悠久, the Japanese character meaning ‘eternity’, the tour’s theme signals the most comprehensive retrospective music programming in the tour’s history. For the first time, the orchestra will formally celebrate all six composers who have shaped the franchise’s musical identity across four decades: Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzu, Naoshi Mizuta, Hitoshi Sakimoto, Yoko Shimomura, and Masayoshi Soken.

The concerts will feature a symphony orchestra and choir of more than 100 musicians conducted by Grammy-winning Maestro Arnie Roth, with high-definition video sequences from the game projected on large screens throughout each performance. Roth has worked closely with the game franchise’s former music composer, Nobuo Uematsu, in composing each game’s unique soundtracks.

Concert-goers can expect fan-favourite pieces such as Final Fantasy VII’s One-Winged Angel, Final Fantasy X’s To Zanarkand, and Final Fantasy VIII’s Liberi Fatali as mainstays of the orchestral concert programme.
