Drive thru wedding in Malaysia

With the number of COVID-19 cases on the rise in Malaysia, and the government declaring a Movement Contro Order nationwide, Malaysians are learning to adapt and trying their best not to congregate in groups. This means a ban has been placed on events like weddings and funerals.
But desperate times call for desperate measures. And this Malaysian couple came up with an ingenious way to get hitched without risking the spread of COVID-19 with a drive-through wedding reception where guests celebrated the occasion with the happy couple from the safety of their cars.

Dinas Bridal calls this ceremony Majlis Kahwin Drive Thru 2020, which can be translated from Malay to English as “Drive-Thru Wedding 2020”. And she’s hit the nail on the head as the ceremony looks like a very classy version of a fast food restaurant drive-through.
But with how creative it all looks, those having to halt their weddings during this time might want to take notes.

Nothing was left out at this wedding reception, with relatives stopping by in their cars to catch a glimpse of the happy couple from a makeshift setup decorated with red roses and delicate curtains by the roadside.
And for a true drive-through wedding experience, Dinas Bridal also included in her Facebook post that this included guests hand gesturing to greet the bride and groom and express their thanks, and having their wedding gifts dropped into a box to minimise any and all physical contact.

And we all love the freebies we can get at wedding receptions – even if it’s just a chocolate bar and packs of Maggi mee. And this couple did not leave them out, with to-go wedding door gifts in pink plastic bags that were handed out to guests.

Malaysians are in need of some positivity during this time. And comments on the Facebook post proves it, as it’s filled with jokes and many even wanting to copy from it with their own wedding ceremonies.
Iliyana Salmi’s comment can be translated into “Let’s do this, it’s easier”.

So while there are countless outdoor wedding venues that will make your special day look like a scene out of a film, those hit with any curveballs from COVID-19 might want to take a page or 2 from Dinas Bridal and do something unique for just as many memories.

Weddings are happy times for families and relatives involved, but with COVID-19 calling for necessary halts on our day-to-day activities, it is understandable that festive activities are included.
But that doesn’t mean that we should stop being positive during this time of uncertainty, so we’re glad to see smiling faces all around from this unique wedding ceremony.
