Cooking can be a chore for the inexperienced, but it’s now one that we have to busy ourselves with on a daily basis due to the Movement Control Order (MCO). And if you’re staying with your family, it’s only fair to divide cooking duties and other chores to every member of the family so that no one’s overwhelmed with tasks by the end of the week.
However, this family learned the hard way that cooking duties are perhaps better left to those who can actually cook. They only figured it out when their young son took the reins, and they ended up with an entire meal comprising 5 egg dishes.
Son whips up 5 egg dishes
A short 26-second video was posted to Twitter by @hanifdaslepzz on 4th April 2020 and it quickly garnered the attention of amused Malaysians with over 16,000 retweets and 9,000 likes.

The caption in Malay read “A chef who can only cook eggs”. Hanif also compared the young boy to a monitor lizard as the reptile is known to sneak into chicken coops and eat the eggs there.
The video begins with a commentary from the father who was behind the camera who wanted to look at what his son, Imran had cooked for their meal. Upon opening the plastic blue food cover, we get a glimpse of the dishes underneath.
That was when the father decided to film each dish up-close while introducing what they were.

The father moved the camera clockwise, displaying each dish for a few seconds. The 1st dish was a “telur campur sos” or eggs mixed with sauce, which looks a lot like a rendition of scrambled eggs. The 2nd dish we see is a plate of fried eggs or “telur goreng mata“. Next up was an omelette followed by 6 boiled eggs.
It turns out that there was one final dish that had not been laid out onto the dining table as Imran was still cooking in the kitchen. After filming the 4 egg dishes, the father walked over to the kitchen to ask Imran what he was cooking now. We soon see the young boy in question in the frame as he stands over the kitchen stove.

When asked what he was cooking, the son replied, “gulai telur” or egg curry. The father then retorts by saying “Do you have an appetite of a monitor lizard’s? You’re only cooking eggs”. While Imran’s answer was inaudible, it was roughly along the lines of “We’re still lucky we have eggs. It’s quarantine season now, dad”.

Even though the meal Imran prepared for his family may not have been what they were expecting when they assigned the task to him, it’s safe to say that he was still darn proud of the food he made. After all, it’s not easy to come up with 5 different recipes for the same ingredient. And it’s cost-friendly too!
Netizens entertained by Imran’s antics
Netizens gathered at the comment section to applaud Imran for his cooking skills, even if the only food he knows how to cook is eggs. The short video certainly did a good job of cracking people up and Malaysians came up with their own funny jokes.
Hadri’s joke went down well with fellow Twitter users for its reference to the trendy Dalgona drink and it can be translated to: “Imran, what’s for dessert?” “Egg Dalgona, dad.”

Another Twitter user who goes by the username of @syazcamimi_ said that it’ll only take 1 person in the family to fart before their whole house will reek of eggs.

This user said that Imran probably used up a whole tray’s worth of eggs on that day.

Son only knows how to cook eggs
It’s rare to see a young child cooking for their parents at their age, so it’s heartwarming to see Imran putting in the effort to prepare a delicious meal for his family. And from the video, it also seemed like he totally nailed the egg dishes.
We’re not sure if Imran’s family will ask him to cook for them again, but one thing’s for sure and it’s that Imran is a champ in our eyes for stepping up to the plate and helping out with chores during MCO.
