As we’re moving into Day 20 of Movement Control Order (MCO) in Malaysia, many of us have started to adapt to staying at home. But those familiar with Kuala Lumpur can’t help but miss out on the usual night haunts and bright lights of the city.

But a series of aerial shots from Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), during a routine aerial patrolling carried out 5th April 2020, shows a city on pause mode as many of us are. And it’s an unlikely source of cool shots of empty streets and lit buildings that’s giving us a dose of the city that we miss.

Here are some of the highlights from it:

We’re more than familiar with crazy long traffic jams in KL. So seeing PDRM’s aerial shots of completely empty streets is extremely rare and somewhat calming.

Those familiar with KL will probably never get to experience these roads completely free of cars, so it’s quite a sight to behold.

It also goes to show how KL-ites have been diligently abiding by the MCO. According to this surveillance routine carried out by a PDRM helicopter, compliance rates of people following the MCO is now at 99%.

Hotels also light up with symbols of hope

Some hotels have been playing their part  during the MCO by acting as quarantine facilities or offering free accommodation for healthcare workers.

Further showing their support at this time, several hotels in KL, including INVITO in Bangsar South, can be seen systematically lighting up hotel rooms to spell out words such as “We must win” and showing heart symbols.

With just a week left in the extended MCO, it won’t be long till the streets of KL are filled with traffic once more. These stunning aerial shots are a strong reminder of what Malaysia has had to stand united against. But until then, those missing out on the city can have their dose of it from these cool aerial shots that have been uploaded online by PDRM.
