New ETS Express Service on KTM
Taking a train is a convenient mode of transportation for many of us, especially on long-distance trips between states – not to mention, we get to avoid the common traffic jams observed on major highways.
If you’re a frequent user of KTM, then the new Electric Train Service (ETS) Express services by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is something you can look forward to come 1st August 2024.
There’ll be an additional six new express services from the existing 32 per day, and a new schedule for the ETS routes, to make interstate travel much more seamless and efficient.

Starting 1st August, KTMB will launch the ETS Express Service, which will significantly reduce travel times on some of Malaysia’s most popular routes. The move is set to enhance the convenience and efficiency of travelling by train in the country, offering commuters a faster alternative for their journeys.
Additionally, these express trains will stop at major stations, allowing passengers to save up to 40 minutes in commuting time.
There are three types of train classes for the ETS Express Service:
- ETS Silver (RM25/adult)
- ETS Gold (RM35/adult)
- ETS Platinum (RM45/adult), which includes Wi-Fi and food on board

The new ETS Express Service will feature six routes, connecting major cities:
- KL Sentral to Ipoh
- KL Sentral to Butterworth
- KL Sentral to Padang Besar
Travel times on these routes will see substantial reductions. For instance, the journey between KL Sentral and Ipoh will now take just 2 hours instead of the previous 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Some of the stations that the ETS Express Service from KL Sentral to Ipoh passes through include Rawang, Slim River, Kampar, and Batu Gajah.
Meanwhile, the KL Sentral to Butterworth route will be completed in 3 hours and 30 minutes, while the trip from KL Sentral to Padang Besar will take 4 hours and 50 minutes.

In line with the introduction of the ETS Express Service, KTMB has also revised its overall ETS service schedule, effective 1st August. This update will see a decrease in the frequency of the ETS trains at stations such as Sungai Buloh, Tanjung Malim, and Kampar.
The new timetable includes five trains travelling to and from both Ipoh and Padang Besar, and six trains to and from Butterworth. Likewise, this adjustment is aimed at streamlining services for a more efficient travel experience for passengers.
Those who are interested in purchasing a ticket can do so through KTMB’s official website, or via the KTMB Integrated Ticketing System (KITS) mobile app.

With reduced travel times thanks to the new ETS Express Service, locals can expect a much more seamless experience when it comes to interstate travel by train.
