Man shares viral hack to fix a slow running laptop on TikTok
Malaysians can get pretty creative on social media these days by sharing life hacks that go viral. For example, this TikToker shared a cleaning hack for oily sambal containers that impressed netizens, and this woman shared how to “clean” and reuse cooking oil that got netizens divided about its ingenuity.
Earlier this week another Malaysian went viral for sharing a pro-tip on how to fix a slow running laptop in a TikTok video.

On 20th September 2021, TikTok user Steve Ng shared a video telling Malaysians how to speed up a slow running laptop, which has now gone viral. Step 2: Type in the command “msconfig” and click OK
Step 3: Click Boot tab, then click Advanced Options
Step 4: Tick the checkbox next to “Number of processors” and select the highest number from the dropdown menu below it.
Step 5: Click OK to confirm and Apply changes
Step 6: Restart the laptop and use it normally

Steve also left a comment on his video saying that the trick works for him and it may work differently for other laptop models. He suggested that people back up their computer files before performing the steps, just in case you need the files.
Netizens share mixed feelings about the laptop hack
Ng’s viral TikTok video has gathered a lot of discussions among netizens. There are some 9,000 comments on his video at the time of writing. Some said that his trick may not work while others found his video funny presumably because he picked up his laptop from a bin at the start of the video.

One netizen said that he can only see up to two processors in his laptop and that his laptop is working slightly faster after trying the hack.

But another netizen commented that selecting the highest number of processors may not necessarily speed up processes such as opening applications and running software in the laptop because it uses the entire memory to load the operating system.

Meanwhile, netizen Kinn Dechaphatthanakun suggested replacing the HDD or hard disk drive with SSD or solid-state drive as another trick that people can try.

It is pretty cool to see that a simple tip is being virally shared by Malaysians on social media although it may not work for every laptop. This is because laptops can slow down due to a number of reasons such as insufficient storage, RAM, malware and so on. Nevertheless, kudos to Ng for sharing this useful tip with everyone.
