Floccus Floccus has SpongeBob-inspired ang ku kuih

There’s something about character-themed foods that give us a dopamine hit. Bringing us the latest round of eye-catching treats that are ‘Gram-worthy is Floccus Floccus, Petaling Street’s resident kuih specialist.

The KL cafe recently released two SpongeBob-inspired ang ku kuih, cheekily featuring the Bikini Bottom background fishes in their limp and flat forms.

Two new creative ang ku kuih

Move over, SpongeBob and Patrick.

The Incidentals, or the background fishes with round white eyes who are always around for a well, incident, are having their main character moment. Besides having their own Pop Mart blind box plush series, the fishes are now in ang ku kuih form in Malaysia.

Floccus Floccus has hopped on the bandwagon with its latest launch, the Bikini Bottom Buddies ang ku kuih. The KL cafe has come up with two Incidentals that look just like their cartoon counterparts – you’ll lowkey feel like a villain sinking your teeth into one of these kuih.

The Limp Fish (RM12) captures the relatable charms of the Bikini Bottom fishes best. The forlorn, faraway expression and crouched pose, complete with tiny legs and fins made of soft, coloured sticky dough, is a creative spin on traditional ang ku kuih, for sure.

Likewise, the Flat Fish (RM12) won’t get off the hook without some photos. Served on a banana leaf on a silver platter, it reminds us of ikan bakar. But make it dressed in pants and in cartoon form.

The ang ku kuih are both filled with dark chocolate in paste form. It has the same texture as red bean, or dou sha, and is not too sweet.

Do note that the Bikini Bottom Buddies ang ku kuih is only available for a limited time, with limited quantities and pre-orders recommended. You can purchase them for dine-in or takeaways.

The familiar tortoise shell shape of the locally loved ang ku kuih is timeless. But add a creative twist to it, with details that elevate the kuih into something of an art, and we’ll gladly soak it all up.
