You Can Replace Your MyKad Chip For Free Until 7th Oct, Take Note For BUDI95

Free MyKad chip replacement until 7th October

The MyKad is already an important card in our wallets. With BUDI95 requiring the use of our identity cards to enjoy the RON95 subsidy, it’ll become an even bigger part of our daily routines.

To ensure we can use it to claim the subsidy with no hiccups, the government announced free chip replacement for faulty MyKads. The initiative begins today, 23rd September, and runs until 7th October 2025.

Replacements at all JPN offices & counters nationwide

If you have a malfunctioning chip within your MyKad, it’s time to get it replaced.

Kementerian Dalam Negeri (KDN) announced in a press release dated 22nd September that Malaysians can replace their defective MyKad chips at no cost, ahead of the rollout of the Budi Madani RON95 (BUDI95) fuel subsidy programme. This typically costs RM10.

You can replace your MyKad starting from 23rd September until 7th October at all National Registration Department (JPN) offices and counters across the nation, which will be equipped to handle replacement processes.

You can find the nearest JPN location near you on the directory on their website, which is conveniently sorted according to state.

The free replacement initiative is expected to cost the government approximately RM714,660, with its aim to ensure all Malaysians can access the subsidies without any technical issues.

Weekend operating hours for JPJ offices

In separate news, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) announced on 22nd September in a press release that it will be extending operating hours for all offices and counters nationwide, so Malaysians can renew their driving license and not have to take a day off, ahead of the BUDI95 rollout.

From 27th September until 26th October, you can visit an office or branch on the weekends, between 8.30am and 4.30pm. Offices in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah will operate on Fridays and Saturdays, with other states operating on Saturdays and Sundays during this period.

Most of us already take good care of our MyKad – it’s a pretty important card in our possession, after all. But in the case that you need to get it replaced, now is a good time to do so with free replacements offered by the government.
