Gamtan in Sri Petaling
Sri Petaling is no stranger to the Korean BBQ scene, but there’s always room for another spot to satisfy your cravings for barbecued meats. Enter Gamtan, the latest KBBQ restaurant to open its doors in the Kuala Lumpur neighbourhood, bringing its signature grilled meats and Korean flavours to the area.
Opening in August 2026, the new branch launches with a promotion: a free makgeolli set to enjoy with every order of a meat set, redeemable from now until 10th September.
What to order at Gamtan
At Gamtan, every cut of meat is prepared fresh on the day itself, from butchering and slicing to the ageing process, before it’s served straight to your table. Needless to say, the meat is what you’ll want to try while here.
Go for the restaurant’s signature Gamtan Set (RM158), suitable for 2–3 people, which comes with 500g of meat – the butcher’s cut and collar – as well as kimchi stew and an array of unlimited refillable banchan. If pork isn’t quite your thing, Gamtan also offers a selection of Wagyu beef cuts, and a single meat cut type per plate from RM38.
The staff handles all the grilling, so sit back and enjoy your meal. Also worth a mention is Gamtan’s selection of dipping sauces, with different sauces specially made to pair with different cuts of meat.
Tonkatsu sauce and breadcrumbs go with the jowl cut, while white kimchi and ssamjang go with the flower belly cut. A standout is the wasabi and squid sauce to pair with the snow cut, which delivers a flavour punch and just a slight kick.
Beyond its selection of meats, Gamtan has a variety of traditional Korean dishes on its menu, including comfort classics such as the hearty Kimchi Stew (RM25) and refreshing Cold Noodles (RM26), better known as naengmyeon.
Worth trying is the Sotbap (from RM38), a Korean stone-pot rice dish that can be hard to find in Malaysia. The rice is grilled until it develops a deliciously charred base, then topped with your choice of ingredients. Here, they offer eel, beef steak, pork, and even abalone.
Free makgeolli set for its opening
If you’re looking for an extra reason to visit, Gamtan is currently offering a special promotion. From now until 10th September, diners who purchase any meal set will receive a platter of four flavours of makgeolli, so you can enjoy KBBQ the way that Koreans typically do.
The set comprises Original Rice Wine, as well as flavoured versions: Chestnut, Tomato, and Red Ginseng.
A jug of makgeolli is usually priced at RM38.
How to get to Gamtan Sri Petaling
Gamtan is located along the main streets of Sri Petaling, making it relatively easy to spot from the main road.
However, parking can be a little tricky, especially during peak dining hours, as the area is surrounded by plenty of shops and restaurants. If you are driving, it’s best to arrive slightly earlier than your intended dining time so you have more time to find a parking spot.
For those taking public transport, the nearest station is Sri Petaling LRT Station. From the station, you can take a short Grab ride to the restaurant, which may be a more convenient option if you want to avoid the hassle of finding parking.
