GrabFood rider sends food for free from Puchong to Cheras
Delivery riders have been hard at work as many Malaysians opt for food delivery services during the pandemic. In spite of having to brave the erratic Malaysian weather in their course of work, stories have been cropping up of their good deeds.
Such is the case with this GrabFood delivery rider who sent food for free to a customer after he was given the wrong address. The customer had asked him to keep the food as it had been her mistake, but he made the trip from the wrong address in Cheras to the correct one in Puchong anyway so she wouldn’t be left hungry. He even refused a RM100 tip the customer gave to him initially.
Initially refused RM100 tip for good deed done
On 24th May 2021, Vijaya Kasinathan took to her LinkedIn page to share the story of her encounter with GrabFood delivery rider Azrul.
She had placed an order for dinner on the food delivery app, but forgot to change her address from her office in Cheras to her house in Puchong.
When she realised her mistake, she asked Azrul to keep the food for himself. But he said that he felt bad that she “won’t have anything to eat”. So, he generously offered to complete the delivery to her house so she wouldn’t go hungry.
He then spent nearly 40 minutes more to reroute to Vijaya’s home from her office to deliver the food to her, as she told Malay Mail in an interview.

The incident had Vijaya surprised at the “courtesy” and “dedication” of the GrabFood delivery rider. To thank him for his efforts, she offered him an ang pow of RM100. When he found out just how much she had given him, Vijaya shared that he returned to her house with tears in his eyes to ask why she had given him so much money. He also initially refused to take the money.
But Vijaya insisted that he do so, saying that what he had done was priceless.
A photo that Vijaya shared alongside the story showed Azrul and her mother, who was also equally impressed by Azrul’s kind deed. She said that Azrul requested to take a photo with her as keepsake.
According to another LinkedIn user, someone managed to reach out to Azrul after the story shared by Vijaya went viral, with numerous Facebook groups picking up on it.
They learned that Azrul works shifts as a GrabFood delivery rider from 6PM as an extra source of income for his family. He was allegedly offered a higher paying job by those who had a chat with him, but it is not known whether he accepted the offer, as he expressed hesitation about leaving his main job of 7 years.
Netizens sing praise for GrabFood rider’s kindness
Her story had many netizens on LinkedIn coming out with praises for Azrul.
One netizen commented, “Azrul is downright a person whose attitude is worth commending. His gratitude and physical effort to return to you [when he realised the ang pow money was] “too much” speak volumes about the kind of person we can only appreciate. Thank you, Vijaya, for acknowledging the character of this man enough to share your story. As for Azrul, simply awesome!”

GrabFood rider offers free delivery after address blunder
Those who have been utilising food delivery services at this time know the hassle that riders have to go through, with rush hours during dinnertime no easy times for them. So we applaud Azrul for offering to deliver food for free despite the address blunder, and Vijaya as well for rewarding the dedicated rider.
