Gurney Walk, a new mall in Penang
Gurney Drive is undoubtedly one of the most popular esplanades in George Town, Penang, that’s patronised by tourists and locals alike. This long stretch of waterfront street is home to hip restaurants, swanky hotels, and popular malls – Gurney Plaza and Gurney Paragon.
Another mall we can add to our list for more food spots and retail shops to check out here is Gurney Walk – a new mall located just a stone’s throw from Evergreen Laurel Hotel Penang. Here, patrons can visit artisanal cafes, boutique spas, and more, or soak up sea views at a landscaped al fresco area just outside the mall.
A new retail landmark on Gurney Drive
Gurney Walk officially opened its doors on 1st March 2022, welcoming the public to visit an invigorating array of retail shops, food and beverage outlets, wellness centres, and convenience stores.
This new lifestyle hub stretching 100,000 square feet along Gurney Drive is part of Plenitude Berhad’s development projects, and linked to Ascott Gurney Penang Hotel & Residences and the Menara Gurney Offices – also developed under the same company.

Adding buzz to the already bustling street, Gurney Walk features three floors of retail space that will be dedicated to various businesses. On the ground floor, patrons can find restaurants, cafes, convenience stores and banks.
Meanwhile, the first floor of Gurney Walk will host grooming and specialty shops, bistros, and fashion boutiques, while entertainment, edutainment, hobby stores and more restaurants can be found on the second floor.
You can look to have some me-time or retail therapy at this new mall too, with wellness centres, hair and beauty salons, and various pop-up stores set to open here. Among this list are Areoma Boutique Spa, Urban Republic, and Eartheories.
If you’re feeling peckish, well-known cafes and bakeries in Penang will be opening new branches at Gurney Walk, such as Yin’s Sourdough Bakery, which specialises in freshly baked breads and buns. Stairs Specialty Coffee, a coffee shop known for their fragrant cups of speciality coffee brewed multiple ways, is set to welcome avid coffee drinkers at their new store here too.
Other food places at Gurney Walk are Fourspoons, a dessert cafe, and Secawan ‘n’ Such, a cafe that serves all-day breakfast. Globally-known ones like The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and Subway will also expand their operations here for patrons to grab some quick bites.

Located at the heart of the thriving Gurney Drive, Gurney Walk also boasts spectacular sea views. There’s even an al fresco lane, highlighted “by a linear park with landscaped features” where visitors can take a stroll or rest their feet, while enjoying the outdoor ambience.
Besides shopping and food, Gurney Walk will host workshops, art exhibitions, and events in the future to add more charm to the already-vivacious Gurney Drive.
More charm in Penang’s Gurney Drive
Poised to become a bustling spot for a mix of cultural, retail, and culinary experiences, Gurney Walk is a mall that we can look forward to visiting regularly to expand our search for food haunts and shopping on Gurney Drive.
