‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ rerelease on 17th April

Hayao Miyasaki’s beloved Howl’s Moving Castle will return to Malaysian cinemas on 17th April 2025, 20 years after it first hit the big screen in Malaysia. Whether it’s to discover or rediscover the magic of Studio Ghibli’s classic films, you can now watch Howl’s Moving Castle at a cinema and soak in the film’s rich storytelling and moving artwork on the big screen again. Regional film studio mm2 Entertainment announced that it will bring the movie back to local theatres – TGV, GSC, MBO Cinemas, and Dadi Cinemas – on 17th April, in time for the movie’s two-decade anniversary in the country.
The film will be re-released in its original Japanese audio, with English, Malay, and Chinese subtitles on screen.

For the uninitiated, Howl’s Moving Castle chronicles the journey of Sophie, a young woman afflicted by a spell cast by a jealous witch, transforming her into an elderly lady. She finds herself in the company of Howl, an enigmatic wizard with a legged, walking castle. Together, they embark on a journey to break the curse.
Special fan screening event at Dadi Cinemas
TGV, GSC, MBO Cinemas, and Dadi Cinemas will offer limited-time screenings of Howl’s Moving Castle across their various Malaysian locations. While a screening date for the film has already been announced, ticket prices and showtimes have not yet been released – you can keep your eyes glued on your go-to cinema’s social media page for updates.

In the meantime, super fans of the Miyasaki film will want to check out the special Howl’s Moving Castle Fan Gathering held at Dadi Cinema in Pavilion KL on 16th April. For RM45, you’ll get to watch the film and snag film-inspired merch like a button badge, magnet, pouch, and towel. Tickets are limited for this fan screening, so if the merchandise interests you, you’ll want to be quick to purchase a ticket.
