IKEA Plans To Open A Physical Store in Sarawak, Those In East M’sia May Get Meatballs & Furniture In Person Soon

The first IKEA store planned for East Malaysia

The case to get meatballs and affordable furniture may no longer be a tedious one for those over in East Malaysia. While IKEA has four branches in the country, they are all located in Peninsular Malaysia. But this may all change soon, as the Swedish home furnishings giant is said to be expanding in the country with its first physical store in Sarawak.

A dedicated online store for those in East Malaysia

IKEA has been trying to make shopping for those in Sabah and Sarawak easier, by launching a dedicated East Malaysia Online Store on 4th February 2025. According to the website, it’s a curated store with up to 2,000 IKEA products that are all priced the same as in Peninsular Malaysia.

There are two ways for East Malaysia shoppers to get their hands on IKEA products through the online store: delivery services straight to their homes from RM10, or collecting the items from a new Collection Point in Kuching for a flat fee of RM10.

The Kuching Collection Point can be found at Hexagon High Transport, 922, Jalan Demak Laut 3, Kuching, Sarawak.

This is IKEA’s first step into East Malaysia, as the Swedish brand plans to open a physical store in Sarawak to reach more Malaysians, as reported by Bernama. However, no exact debut date for the Sarawak store was shared by Malcolm Pruys, the IKEA Malaysia country retail director who teased the possibility of the store in the region.

This announcement is good news for those in East Malaysia, as part of the fun of visiting an IKEA store is shopping at the market hall and grabbing a bite to eat at the cafe. Meantime, Sabahans and Sarawakians can make the most of the online store.
