There’s A Free Exhibition In KL That Brings Together 70 Architects In A Visionary Scale Model Showcase

Indonesian Architects Week in KL

Malaysia has its share of architectural marvels, but there’s no denying that our SEA neighbours are homes to some stunners too.

At the annual Indonesian Architects Week (IAW), held in Kuala Lumpur this year, architecture buffs – and anyone interested in scale models – are welcome to view models of Indonesia’s contemporary take on architecture, covering both innovative and immersive designs.

The show takes place from 14th to 23rd November 2024.

Bamboo structures to sleek modernist architectural models

To explore art beyond paintings and sculptures this weekend, the IAW, hosted by The Godown, has architectural models done by 70 architectural firms from 11 Indonesian provinces on display in its rustic space, for a week only.

Curated by Rizki Supratman and Trianzani Sulshi, the exhibition is themed around Equatorial Synaesthesia. With the equator and synaethesia in mind, the featured architects have reimagined architecture as an immersive experience that transcends function.

Here, visitors are invited to explore how design interacts with human perception on a sensory level. Each architectural model is more than just a shelter. They address the challenges posed by the intense heat, humidity, and rainfall of the equatorial climate, and the pressing realities of climate change and how it affects human needs.

The result – a harmonious dialogue between tropical nature and local culture.
