Temporary road closures in October for the 47th ASEAN Summit
Malaysians, it’s time once again to prepare an adjusted travel-to-work plan. Temporary road closures are set to start as early as 23rd October 2025 for the 47th ASEAN Summit in peak traffic areas in KL.
Here’s everything that we know about the upcoming scheduled road closures so far.

With several leaders and delegates from foreign countries attending the 47th ASEAN Summit and its related summits, including US President Donald Trump, Malaysia’s capital city is tightening traffic control throughout the duration of the regional meeting in Malaysia from 26th to 28th October.

In a statement released on 10th October by the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), temporary traffic diversions are set to take place on major highways and roads in the vicinity of KLIA, KLCC, and designated hotels in KL, as the 47th ASEAN Summit is held at Pusat Konvensyen Kuala Lumpur (KLCC).
The closures are to allow the travel of high-profile delegations and envoys for the 47th ASEAN Summit. The area with the most significant traffic disruption is KL’s “Golden Triangle” area, covering KLCC, Jalan Pudu, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Imbi, and Jalan Tun Razak.
These are the confirmed dates, roads, and times of the traffic disruptions:
Motorcade rehearsals from 17th to 25th October
In a statement on Facebook, Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) shared that phased motorcade rehearsals will start from 17th to 25th October. During the stipulated period, the rehearsals will begin at two separate intervals, at 8am and 7pm, until the motorcade rehearsal is complete. Previously, JPST shared that the rehearsals will take place on 23rd and 24th October.
The routes affected from 17th to 22nd October are roads and highways from the Subang Air Base and KLIA Bunga Raya Complex to hotels in the KL area, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, and Seri Negara Kuala Lumpur.
From 23rd to 25th October, routes from KLIA to hotel accommodations around KL, Seri Negara Kuala Lumpur, and KLCC will be affected.
Road & highway closures from 26th to 28th October

In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter) by the Kuala Lumpur Command and Control Centre, major road and highway closures are to be carried out periodically, lasting between 30 minutes to 45 minutes from 26th to 28th October:
26th to 27th October
The intersections affected on 26th and 27th October are:
- Jalan Sultan Ismail – Jalan P. Ramlee
- Jalan Ampang – Jalan P. Ramlee
- Jalan Perak – Jalan Pinang
- Jalan Perak – Jalan P. Ramlee
- Jalan Stonor – Jalan Kia Peng
- Jalan Stonor – Persiaran KLCC
Closures at these intersections, which cover the route from the delegates’ hotels to KLCC, will begin at 8am, and from KLCC to their hotels at 5.30pm, on 26th October. Likewise, on 27th October, there are closures on the same intersections at 8am and 7pm.
28th October
On 28th October, traffic disruptions will ensue from 8am until the completion of the envoys’ arrivals from their hotels to KLIA and Subang Air Base.

- Elite Expressway from KLIA to Putrajaya
- New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) from Subang to Jalan Duta
- Guthrie Corridor Expressway (Guthrie)
- North-South Expressway (PLUS) from Sungai Buloh to Jalan Duta
- KL-Seremban Expressway (Sungai Besi-City Centre)
- Maju Expressway (MEX)
- Putrajaya Ring Road
- Jalan Istana
- Jalan Damansara
- Jalan Tun Razak
- Jalan Ampang
- Jalan Sultan Ismail
- Jalan Bukit Bintang
- Jalan Imbi
- Jalan Parlimen
- Jalan Kuching
Upcoming road closures for the 47th ASEAN Summit held in Malaysia
Heavy vehicles are prohibited from driving into the city centre, and the public is advised to avoid using these routes and utilise public transport instead during the duration of the summit. So Klang Valley commuters, it’s best to plan out your travels in the coming weeks, with the upcoming major road closures throughout the city to avoid commute disruptions and late clock-ins.
