This Deli Shop Hidden Inside A Bangsar Condo Has Authentic Italian Sandwiches With Bresaola & Salami Milano Meats

La Spiga D’oro in Bangsar South, KL

A Gen Z would describe La Spiga D’oro as #iykyk, which in case you didn’t know, stands for “if you know you know”.

Andrea, the Italian owner, has been running La Spiga D’oro with his wife, Hui, since 2022. Yet, only those who stay or work nearby will be familiar with their delicious Italian sandwiches, as the deli shop is hidden inside Pantai Panorama Condo in Bangsar South.

As good eateries deserve attention, we checked out La Spiga D’oro to savour their sandwiches and bring you this review.

Ambience at La Spiga D’oro

Timing is everything when visiting La Spiga. They don’t open until 10.30am and close as soon as they sell out.

We observed that early customers were mostly nearby residents. The pace picked up around noon with office workers streaming in, making the place bustling.

Despite the confined space, the deli shop is a complete kitchen on its own. Seating is scattered outside, providing a laid-back dining experience.

Food at La Spiga D’oro

Their handcrafted schiacciata sandwiches (from RM36) come in various cold-cut choices such as Salami Milano, Turkey ham, and Prosciutto Crudo, each with different cheeses.

You can also purchase the cheeses and cold cuts by the gram if you prefer to build your own sandwiches.

L’Atleta

The owners didn’t skimp on ingredients. The L’Atleta (RM38) is loaded with Bresaola, a type of air-dried, salted beef, as well as Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and rocket greens that are so plentiful they spilt out of our sandwich.

The schiacciata was nicely toasted to a golden hue, glistening with an olive oil dressing. It was incredibly soft with a slight chewiness, making our teeth sink into it effortlessly.

The cured beef tasted very savoury on its own. So, despite feeling like a cow grazing on wild grass, the generous amount of rocket greens brought a much-needed refreshing touch.

Tacchninino

Their Tacchninino (RM36) has Italian turkey ham paired with Swiss Emmental cheese, tomatoes, and homemade pesto sauce.

The incorporation of pesto was clever. Its herbal notes added complexity, ensuring the sandwich didn’t just scream “ham and cheese”.

Yet, this vibrant green sauce didn’t steal the show from the meat, which was savoury with a mild smokiness. It deserved an award for the best supporting role.

Authentic Italian sandwiches by La Spiga D’oro in Bangsar South

Both sandwiches that we tried showcased a true team effort. Each ingredient complemented the others perfectly, making every component stand out. Removing any one of them would lessen the overall experience.

Please come to La Spiga D’oro with an empty stomach. They are a place that serves hefty sandwiches that are also very tasty, so you won’t want to take just one bite.
