South Korea’s Lotteria Opens First Outlet In Malaysia At PJ’s The Curve, Has Korean Burgers Like Shrimp & Bulgogi

Lotteria is now open in Malaysia at The Curve

If you’ve been to South Korea, chances are you’ve bumped into a Lotteria before. And if you’ve felt the urge to eat as the locals do, chances are even higher that you’ve popped into an outlet before.

Best known for its array of Korean-style burgers, the South Korean burger chain has expanded to Malaysia. Its first-ever outlet is now open at The Curve shopping mall in Petaling Jaya, with signature shrimp and bulgogi burgers.

What to expect at Lotteria?

Lotteria is known for its eclectic menu. Their selection proudly features timeless classics such as Beef Burgers (from RM8.90) and Hot Crispy Chicken Burgers (from RM14.90).

But the highlights at the fast-burger chain are the burgers with a Korean twist, popular abroad and now available in Malaysia too: the Ria’s Bulgogi Burger and Shrimp Burger, priced from RM17.90 each, a la carte.

The Bulgogi Burger is your typical beef burger, but no cheese, and with the addition of a satisfyingly sticky bulgogi sauce with a surprising smokiness. While the beef patty is on the thinner side, it’s evenly coated with the sauce – definitely not lacking in flavours.

You can opt to double up the patty and have a cheese slice with the Ria’s Double Bulgogi Burger (from RM22.90) for even more meat in each bite.

The Shrimp Burger will be worth trying, as it’s a pretty unique menu item on the menu. It tastes similar to a fish filet burger, complete with a mayonnaise sauce. Look closer, and you’ll see pieces of actual prawns in the fish filet.

Don’t skip on the sides, as there are several unique ones for us Malaysians.

The Gangjung (from RM18.90) chickens might just make this burger spot your next favourite place to get fried chicken. The fried chicken has an ASMR-crunch skin, completely drenched with a sweet-sticky in-house sauce but yet retaining its crispiness.

There are Cheese Sticks (RM7.50/2 pcs) and Shake Shake Fries (RM8.50), or French fries that come with cheese, chilli, or onion seasoning packets. Pro-tip: the seasoning powders go well when sprinkled on the fried chicken and mozzarella sticks, too.

End your meal on their selection of Ice Shot – the Red Bean Bingsu (RM18.90) and Choco Cookie Tornado (RM6.90) are highlights.

What is Lotteria?

Lotteria was founded by Korean entrepreneur Shin Kyuk-Ho in Tokyo, Japan, in 1972. He was also the founder and first chairman of the Lotte Group. The brand established itself in Seoul, South Korea, in 1979, often regarded as the first fast food restaurant in the country.

Today, Lotteria has become a familiar face in South Korea, popular for its array of burgers and localised menu at over 1,000 outlets. You can now find more than 300 Lotteria outlets scattered across Asia, too, with many concentrated in Vietnam and Japan, and others located in Laos, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Cambodia.

The Malaysian store foray is a partnership between Korea’s Lotte GRS and Malaysia’s Serai Group. They’ve committed to opening 30 outlets in the next half-decade in Malaysia, with its inaugural Malaysian Lotteria store now open since 6th December.

With 30 outlets planned for the next five years in Malaysia, we can expect to see more Lotteria outlets in our neighbourhoods, beyond their debut store at The Curve.

As part of its opening in Malaysia, the burger joint is giving away free postcard packs of the K-pop group and Loterria ambassador TOMORROW X TOGETHER, with every order of a Double Shrimp Burger Combo. This is on a while-stocks-last basis, so you’ll want to head over to the store quickly to get your hands on it.
