Malaysians have been swept up in the political drama that’s been unfolding ever since Mahathir announced his resignation. And while many have been masking their confusion behind funny memes, members of the press have been keeping their ears to the ground at Istana Negara.
Some have even been waiting as early as 7AM to get the latest scoop – which is why our Agong was seen personally delivering free KFC and McDonalds in the past 2 days to show his appreciation.
Now with free power banks, ice cream, and most recently cups of Milo added to the list of freebies here, Malaysian netizens all want in on the giveaway haven at Istana Negara.

With members of the press camping on the lawns outside the palace to catch the latest updates, the area has begun to look like a food bazaar with a constant supply of free food.

Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, Comptroller of the Royal Family and Household, could even be seen handing out Ikan Patin Tempoyak to the press on behalf of the Agong by the palace’s gates earlier today.

Tune Talk also showed up on 25th February 2020 to give out free ice cream for those who can’t tahan the Malaysian heat.

And not just food, Chinese phone brand Xiaomi also made an appearance at the palace with boxes of free 20,000mAh power banks.
These “Redmi” power banks cost around RM50 on Shopee – so we’re more than glad that fake news of the brand spreading Covid-19 has been debunked so the press can charge their devices while outside on duty.
Freebies from Xiaomi comes with post-it notes that read: “You cover the news, we got you covered! – From, Xiaomi Malaysia”.

Earlier today, a Milo van was also seen outside the palace as early as 8AM serving hot and cold Milo to the press so they can keep their energy levels up.
Twitter user, @Abdullah_Karim, shared the news with a Tweet saying: “This morning, a Milo truck was providing free drinks to media personnel at the entrance to the National Palace”.

The generosity of these brands were not lost on Malaysian netizens, who wanted in on the free items that were being handed out at Istana Palace. But most were just feeling left out from the Milo truck serving up free cups of their favourite drink – which arguably tastes sweeter and creamier than a 3-in-1 packet when coming out of one of these iconic trucks.
Twitter user @mediha_m expressed the feelings of many, tweeting: “Milo van at palace gates. Now I really want to be a journalist…”.

User @kopikosongkaw1 also added that he wanted to borrow a DSLR camera so he can really get into character as a journalist to get his hands on free Milo from the Milo van.

Freebies at Istana Negara
The press have been working hard to update Malaysians on the latest political happenings so we’re not left confused by it. So while we’ve all shared our laughter at memes online about wanting all these freebies, we’re glad that they are being fed and taken care of by these generous brands and members of the government.
