Mew Movement in SS2
An outing in Malaysia typically involves cafe-hopping, window shopping, and sometimes having a de-stress session at a karaoke. Well, here is one more thing to add to your list – exploring an independent art store.
Nestled on the second floor of a shop lot in SS2, amidst an array of eateries, is Mew Movement – a shop that feels like a kid with a lollipop running into an office filled with working adults and the rhythmic clacking of keyboards.
While the nearby shops emit food aromas and are rather modest-looking, this local art store exudes a joyful ambience with vibrant artworks, walls dressed in pastel shades, and aesthetic decorations with a Y2K vibe.

Mew Movement was founded by two homegrown artists, Mel and Yew, who believe in the power of arts in connecting people. They aspire to make Mew Movement a space where visitors can express themselves through art.

As you explore the place, you will find Stickers (RM2.50), Washi Tapes (RM12), and Postcards (RM6) neatly displayed on the shelves. Each is thoughtfully designed by the owners, featuring cute and funky images that are ideal for personalising planners, journals, and even laptops.

Additionally, their Original Acrylic, Gouache, and Oil Paintings (from RM69) of landscapes and food make perfect home decor items, with various sizes available to fit any space in the house.

For something extra exciting, check out their Blind Dates (RM25) mystery bags. Within each bag lies a collection of handcrafted items, such as enamel pins, art prints, and stickers.
While you can give it a guess based on the three clues written on the cover – which include “plays Animal Crossing” and “loves visiting an art gallery” – the content will nevertheless remain a secret until you tear the bag open. So simply choose one that’s best tuned to your personal preferences.

Get hand-illustrated portraits from a photo booth

Photo booths are not new concepts to us – most of us likely have memories of squishing with friends in a cramped space to ensure everyone’s faces are in the frame. But, the photo booth at Mew Movement will surprise you.
Instead of the typical photo prints, what you get from the booth here are Hand-illustrated Portraits (RM15/piece) of yourself that are hand-drawn on the spot by the owners, adding a touch of heartfelt creativity to your experience.
If you’re worried about back and limb aches when posing, fret not – the entire process usually takes less than 15 minutes.
Mail postcards to your future selves, family or friends
Another highlight that shouldn’t be missed during your visit is the 12 red postboxes jutting out from the wall, each for a different month.

These letterboxes are no ordinary mailboxes. When you drop your handwritten postcard into any one of them, the recipient will receive the card in the future month of your choice.
That being said, you can leave a message to your future self or surprise your friends and family with a birthday wish delivered through a postcard, even if they are overseas. To send a postcard, simply purchase an artsy one from them and pay an additional fee of RM1 for local recipients and RM5 for international destinations.
