We can’t say no to a good bargain. While Kuala Lumpur already has a whole slew of malls for us to indulge in retail therapy, we might get to go outlet shopping and snag deals without the far drive out to Sepang or Genting Highlands in the future. An under-construction facade of KLIA’s Mitsui Outlet Park at LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC) has been circulating on social media.

Mitsui Outlet Park is expected to open on the 3rd floor of LaLaport BBCC. However, no official opening date has been announced yet. Facebook user Malaysia Shopping Mall shared photos of its facade, which states that it’ll be an “outlet concept shopping” that will open soon at the KL mall.

For the uninitiated, LaLaport BBCC is only the second LaLaport outlet outside of Japan. Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA Sepang, located near Kuala Lumpur International Airport, has been attracting locals and tourists alike for discounted apparel, home goods, and more from a range of brands including Cotton On, adidas, and Coach. Both the mall and outlet mall are overseen by Japan’s Mitsui Fudosan Group.

When Mitsui Outlet Park opens in KL’s bustling Bukit Bintang, shoppers can expect similar deals on branded goods. A Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport KADOMA which operates in Osaka, Japan, is also similarly a mall where shoppers can enjoy retail shops and outlet shopping all in one spot.

Currently, LaLaport BBCC operates over 400 retail shops spread across 6 floors. In December 2024, the mall welcomed a collection of new-to-Malaysia brands straight from Japan. They include stores that anime otakus will want to check out – Doko Koko Cafe, an anime-themed cafe with rotating pop-ups, and Animate, which carries a range of anime merchandise.

Japanese streetwear brands like WEGO, Younger Song, and 9090 also opened their first branches in Malaysia at the mall in December.
