We love our live concerts and singing and dancing along to songs with our favourite pop stars and K-pop groups. But watching the orchestra and listening to the delicate tunes of musical instruments can be an equally amazing experience, if not, more powerful.

We don’t have to be classical music snobs to appreciate a live orchestra performance. The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) has released its 2025 lineup that features live renditions of scores from renowned composers, 20th century films, and even a British rock group.

We’ve rounded up the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2025 season, so that you can experience a musical journey like no other.


6th & 7th January – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

The Harry Potter film series may have ended, but its legacy continues – including its entrancing soundtracks. Listening to the scores from the second film, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, with the symphony orchestra performing them live will feel all the more magical, especially whilst the film itself is projected onto a high-definition screen that puts you in the middle of the wizardry action and enchantment of Hogwarts.

18th January – New Year’s Concert

Set the tone for 2025 with MPO’s New Year’s Concert that will feature the timeless music of Austrian composer Johan Strauss II. In celebration of the Waltz King’s 250th birth anniversary, the performance will be conducted by Gerard Salonga, who will bring to life the classical treasures of Strauss, including Die Fledermaus, Emperor’s Waltz and The Blue Danube.

8th February – Dvořák Double

The Dvořák Double brings to the spotlight conductor Juniko Hirokami, leading the presentation of Czech composer Antonin Dvořák’s wistful score, the Cello Concerto No.1, which will also feature cellist Santiago Cañón Valencia. The Romantic movement continues in the second half of the concert with Symphony No.9 “From The New World”, Dvořák’s signature work that purportedly incorporated the composer’s reflections on his American sojourn.

8th March – Vivaldi’s Four Season

There’s nothing that’ll match the experience of listening to the four evergreen concertos of the beloved masterpiece, Vivaldi’s Four Season, live. Be it the singing birds of spring, the buzzing flies of summer, the flowing creeks of autumn, or the falling frosts of winter, you’ll be in awe of the charismatic strings painting a picture of the seasons that never gets any less fresh.

12th April – The Music of Pink Floyd

With a couple of classical crossover performances under their belts including Beatles Go Baroque and The Music of ABBA, MPO continues to deliver their own renditions of classical pop music, and this time, by reliving the psychedelic sounds of renowned British rock group Pink Floyd. The Music of Pink Floyd will be led by guest conductor Brent Havens, with the unique arrangements to be embroidered by a rock band, as well as Randy Jackson’s powerful vocals.

10th & 11th May – La La Land

La La Land is swoon worthy on film with its heartwarming love story and seamless performance of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, and we know that the live-to-film concert experience by MPO will be every bit as captivating. The orchestra will perform the stunning musical numbers from the award-winning show, with jazz bands and even piano solos to accompany the orchestra. So, to all the fools who dream, you wouldn’t want to miss this one out.

31st May – Mozart Horn Concerto IV

Under the masterful baton of Andrea Marcon, MPO’s Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 4 will bring out the clear tones of Grzegorz Curyla’s horns. Get lost in the lively movements and the melodies of the masterpiece, before taking in the largely upbeat and exuberant arrangements of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2.

12th July – The Music of Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland

Allow conductor Richard Balcombe to take you back to the Golden Age of Hollywood with a full-scale orchestra concert that pays homage to the greatest entertainers in the mid-20th century – Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland. Watch as MPO brings to life the timeless hits from the blazing performers and their films such as Somewhere Over The Rainbow, The Wizard of Oz, and Meet Me in St. Louis.

22nd & 23rd August – John William vs Hans Zimmer

The ingenious move of putting together the enigmatic works of two very prolific movie composers, John Williams and Hans Zimmer, will have movie buffs and music aficionados squealing in delight. 5th & 6th December – Ballet Festival: Swan Lake

When one talks about the quintessential ballet score brimming with love and devastation all at once, there’s only Tchaikovsky’s ravishing score, Swan Lake. December sees the symphony of a resplendent fable with MPO’s Ballet Festival: Swan Lake, alongside a breathtaking choreography performance by the acclaimed Ballet Stars of Moscow, dancing to the passionate tunes of doomed love.

12th & 13th December – Ballet Festival: The Nutcracker

MPO wraps the end of the concert season with a dramatic and spellbinding performance of another legendary Tchaikovsky piece, The Nutcracker.
