Part of the magic of Studio Ghibli films rests in its soundtrack and score. If you agree with this, then you’ll want to check out The Music of STUDIO GHIBLI: Original Singers Symphony, a symphonic show performed by the Tokyo Asia Orchestra that makes its debut in Malaysia in 2027.
When & where does the concert take place?
The Music of STUDIO GHIBLI: Original Singers Symphony will take place on 23rd and 24th April 2027. As for the venue, official organiser MediBeats Productions has yet to announce it, along with the ticketing details.
What to expect at The Music of Studio Ghibli
If you can’t get enough of the music from beloved Ghibli films – namely Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, Castle in the Sky, and Princess Mononoke – here’s your chance to hear scores from them come to life.
The 17-member Tokyo Asia Orchestra will perform orchestral renditions of famous Ghibli tracks from a lineup of its iconic movies, with the original Japanese singers who sang on the tracks featured at the show in Malaysia. They are:
- Yoshikazu Mera: Renowned countertenor who first gained fame singing the theme of Princess Mononoke
- Sumi Shimamoto: Famed voice actress and singer who has appeared in numerous films and television shows, including Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, The Castle of Cagliostro, and more
- Azumi Inoue: Known for her soft and classic voice featured in Laputa: Castle in the Sky and My Neighbor Totoro
- Yuyu: Singer and daughter of Azumi Inoue, who continues to charm audiences with her fresh interpretations of classic Ghibli film theme songs
For the uninitiated, Studio Ghibli is a Japanese animation studio behind award-winning animated films such as Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and Kiki’s Delivery Service that boast its unique charm and animation style.
Hear Studio Ghibli tracks sung by the original singers in Malaysia
For the first time in Malaysia, the original singers that have sung the theme songs for famous Ghibli movies will be making an appearance in Malaysia. You might just want to prepare a pack of tissues, as you’re bound to be swept away by the voices and melodies.
