Myvi driver survives 6-vehicle accident in KL


On 6th September 2021, an accident involving six vehicles at a traffic light intersection on Jalan Ipoh in KL caught much attention online, due to the sheer number of vehicles involved and impact caused by the lorry.

The worst hit vehicle in the KL accident was a Myvi car, left crushed like a tin can as it was directly ahead of the speeding lorry. Fortunately, its driver managed leave the wreckage with minor injuries – which earned him the applause of onlookers at the accident scene as he climbed out of his car.

Initial investigations carried out by authorities following the accident revealed that the lorry driver was under the influence of drugs, and had lost control of his vehicle, resulting in the crash.

According to this report by The Star on 6th September 2021, the accident took place on Monday (6 Sep) at approximately 2.40PM on Jalan Ipoh. The lorry driver collided with five other stationary vehicles at a traffic light intersection, after having “lost control of the vehicle”.

The collision left a Myvi car directly ahead of the lorry crumpled from the impact. Several videos and photos of the accident, which have been circulating on social media, showed a yellow Myvi sandwiched almost flat between the lorry from behind it, and another vehicle – also badly hit – in front of it.

One other vehicle ahead of the three vehicles collided into a tree, while another two vehicles were pushed out of the way, all from the force of the speeding lorry.

In spite of the heavy damage to the Myvi car, which left it virtually unidentifiable, its 45-year-old driver only sustained minor injuries and was brought to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.

Other drivers who were involved in the accident escaped without any serious injuries too, including the lorry driver.

Photos and videos taken via car dash cams and more shared online by netizens showed the moment of impact, and the Myvi driver’s miraculous escape from the wrecked vehicle.

Several road users at the scene of the accident could be seen trying to help the driver get out of his car by pushing the lorry. In one video, the driver – mostly unharmed with spots of blood on his face and shirt – was captured climbing out of the wreckage on his own and landing steadily on his two feet.

He was greeted by the applause of onlookers upon his escape, who broke out in cheers and claps as he managed to leave the accident without any serious injuries.

No fatalities have been reported from the accident.

Initial investigations showed that the lorry driver was not under the influence of alcohol, but was found positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine. He had been on his way to Sentul before the crash.

The accident will be investigated under Section 44(1A) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and the public with information on the accident is advised to contact Jalan Tun HS Lee Traffic Police Station (03-20719999), Kuala Lumpur JSPT Hotline (03-20260267/69), or a neighbouring police station.

Accidents are, unfortunately, something that we have to remain wary of whenever we are on the road. Luckily, none of the individuals involved in this major sic-vehicle crash in KL was seriously harmed, despite the damages to their cars from the impact of the speeding lorry.
