Offffive Coffee in SS2, PJ
Offffive Coffee planted its flag in Bukit Jalil back in April 2024. While this China-based coffee chain made its Malaysian debut in Penang, its first outlet in Klang Valley still generated quite a buzz – we reckon it’s because of their Malaysia-exclusive drinks such as Alamak Dirty and desserts that mimic charcoals and soaps.
Not stopping there, Offffive Coffee has recently expanded to SS2, PJ. To see what all the hype is about, we headed to their latest outlet to give their drinks and snacks a try.
Ambience at Offffive Coffee
It takes squinting eyes and a finger tracing the letters to catch the exact number of Fs in Offffive Coffee’s “Offffive”. Despite the name hinting at five, there are only four Fs.
Offffive Coffee’s Bukit Jalil branch is all about chic day-mode vibes, whereas their new SS2 outlet switches to sleek dark mode. But one thing remains consistent: the shop’s iconic green paper bags. They are each adorned with a black “5” that has been flipped and placed under a square root symbol.
Right in the middle of the shop is a minimalistic white bar, functioning as the hub for both collecting orders and prepping drinks.
Food at Offffive Coffee
Alamak Dirty (RM18.80), Durian Latte (RM17.80), and Monet’s Orchard (RM22.80) are some of the coffee beverages that you can only find at Offffive’s Malaysian outlets.
For classics, there are Americano (RM10.80), Flat White (RM14.80), and Latte (RM14.80).
The dessert menu is nothing short of whimsical. The soap-like Soul Lavation (RM24) is actually a cake, while their viral Dirty Crown (RM32) is a crown-shaped charcoal bread filled with oozing matcha milk foam.
Alamak Dirty
Alamak Dirty was like a top student excelling in all subjects. It’s a perfect balance of espresso base, milk, and aftertaste.
The liquid first caressed our palate with a velvety milkiness, followed by a dark-roast espresso bitterness. We also picked up on nutty, caramel-like undertones. The flavour remained deep and mellow throughout.
Monet’s Orchard
Monet’s Orchard is a blend of raspberries, pineapples, and cherries, infused with a bit of espresso.
The overall flavour was fruit-forward with just the right amount of tartness to keep each sip exciting – we thought we were having a mocktail. The froth on top was also wonderfully fine and smooth.
French Frives
The “charcoal fries” of their French Frives (RM18.80) are cookie sticks in disguise, served with a matcha dip on the side.
The cookie sticks were wheaty and sweet, reminiscent of digestive biscuits. However, the matcha dip felt unnecessary as it didn’t seem to enhance the cookie sticks. This dessert scored high in concept but fell short in taste.
Offffive Coffee in SS2, PJ
If you prefer simplicity and like to stick to the classics, you might find Offffive Coffee on the pricier side. But, if you’re someone who appreciates reimagined coffee and desserts with unique twists, this black-green cafe is a solid choice.
