Photopia is a Korean-style self-photo studio nestled inside a beauty and dining lounge, Walking On Sunshine. For the uninitiated, self-photo studios are where you can take candid studio-quality images on your own with just a click of a remote – perfect for introverts who want to snap photos like their fave Korean idols.

Over at Photopia, you can have an unlimited 20-minute photoshoot with no cameraperson involved. The studio is even equipped with a digital screen for you to review your poses as you’re snapping away. At the end of your shoot, there’s an extra 10 minutes to choose photos to print out as single photo or collage prints, or keep as digital copies.

There are different packages available, with varying amounts of printed and digital photo copies to bring home. The Standard Package (RM60) gets you 2 printed and 5 digital copies, while Double Fun Package (RM90) has 4 printed and 10 digital copies. All photos will be available on the spot after your photoshoot.
After deciding on a package, you can select a room concept – black and white, colour, or neon. For next-level photos, the neon room lets you achieve cool neon-glow photos with #nofilter.

2. Meers Studio – vintage shots & unlimited digital copies

Photo-bugs looking to achieve realistic “vintage” shots can pop by Meers Studio. This humble self-photo studio in Jalan Ampang is heavily inspired by the photo booth concept. They even have a mini self-photo studio called Fotobox (RM40/2 pax for 15 minutes) with a dark-red backdrop that’ll help you produce some old-school shots.
The best part – this studio lets you keep all your photos as digital copies, so even memorable candid shots with your family or friends can be keepsakes too.

A shoot in their Self Photo Studio (RM80/session), which accommodates up to four pax, includes 30 minutes of self-shooting time, 15 minutes of image selection, and one complimentary printed photo. You’ll get to choose between a brown, grey or olive green backdrop.
There are add-ons available too. Opt to add up to two individuals (RM10/pax) per session, or time (RM5/10 minutes) so you can try out more poses with your group. Additional printing services are offered as well, such as a 3-photo collage (RM5) for more realistic photo booth-concept photos, or polaroids (RM6/2 photos) with a classic black or white border.

3. ONESIGHT – unlimited pax per session

ONESIGHT is another self-photo studio on the list, which can be found tucked inside ONES’ 3-in-1 concept store in PJ. Besides shopping for a new outfit at their boutique and sipping on drinks at the in-house cafe, patrons have been swinging by to snap photos at their minimalist studio.

For those looking to take photos with their fam or friends, ONESIGHT allows unlimited patrons per photoshoot session, with no extra charge per pax.

You can also use their props for free – there are seasonal ones for Christmas-themed shoots and also flower arrangements. Pick from a variety of coloured backdrops, ranging from monochromes to pastels, to match the mood of your photos.

4. Oh Neul Studio – Korean-style props & fun photo filters

A self-photo studio with two outlets in KL – including the newest one at MyTOWN Shopping Centre – Oh Neul Studio is reminiscent of street photo booths that are popular in Korea and Japan. The rates are reasonable, and after you snap your photos you can add fun filters, effects and frames to your shots.

Opt for a photoshoot with 2 printed photos of varying sizes for keepsakes – 2×6-inch photos cost RM20, while slightly larger 4×6-inch photos are priced RM25. There will be two backgrounds to choose from – yellow or blue – as well as a plethora of fun and adorable accessories to don such as headbands and glasses.

A Single Session (RM30), with unlimited shots and two printed photos, accommodates two individuals for a 15-minute shoot. For groups, the Double Session (RM80) for four pax comes with a 45-minute shoot and four printed photos.

Wake and Shoot is a self-service photo studio with aesthetics fitting of a Pinterest moodboard – think white-washed walls, potted plants, and massive windows that allow patrons to snap sun-kissed selfies. Owned and managed by a young entrepreneur, as you might imagine, this studio has props that are trendy and Instagram-ready.
Located in Setia Alam – a relatively new township where options for photo studios and event spaces can get limited – opt to rent Wake & Shoot’s space for personal photoshoots. Or, have a photoshoot at their studio space with an in-house photographer.

The minimal concept lets patrons play around with their creativity, as almost everything is customisable. Move around a prop if needed to get the perfect shot, or bring along your own props to fill up the background of your photos.

The studio is an ideal place to check out for special occasions, like Raya and graduations, for an affordable family photoshoot.
With the remote control in your hand and a big screen for you to see, you don’t have to feel anxious about constantly asking the photographer if you look good in the photos. You can keep striking your best pose until you have the perfect photo.

Specially designed for cosplayers, Sot Plugs Studio in Bandar Puteri, Puchong, has over 10 themes to choose from which ranges from old-fashioned sets to studios with futuristic concepts. While the studio is especially popular among anime fans, anyone looking to level up their photos with cool backdrops can also drop by for a shoot in a themed room for as low as RM100/hour.

Unlike the other studios listed, Glance Photography Studio‘s packages include photography services. So while the costs are slightly higher here, your photos will be taken by one of their experienced in-house photographers to ensure professional results with little do-overs.
This studio specialises in various types of portrait photography, including newborn, family, and couple photos, as well as corporate portraits. The latter is great for jobseekers looking to update their LinkedIn profiles and resumes.
