There’s never a boring day in Kuala Lumpur. A trendy art exhibition and pop-up event seem to open every other week in the city – whether you’re a diehard anime fan, an appreciator of the arts, or just someone looking for a new lepak idea for you and your friends, there’ll always be something to check out. To help you plan your weekends, here are 10 things to do in KL this June 2024.


1. Comic Art Festival at Fahrenheit88

The much-anticipated Comic Art Festival Kuala Lumpur is returning in June for a 2-day event. The festival, which celebrates comic artists and illustrators from all walks of life and from around the world, will be held at Fahrenheit88, on 8th and 9th June.

You can expect to come across individual artist booths to shop for prints, stickers, and other crafts from exhibiting artists, as well as panel sessions, art-related workshops, speed painting sessions, and more.

2. Overture exhibition at AweGallery

Melaka-born watercolourist Lee Wee Xian is displaying his watercolour artworks at Awe Gallery for his first solo exhibition, Overture. Over 25 paintings are on view, depicting moments of his life and favourite places in his hometown of Melaka.

3. Malaysian Jazz Piano Festival at KLPAC

To be serenaded by jazz music performed by a crew of talented local musicians, make your way to the Malaysian Jazz Piano Festival at Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre. The festival takes place over three days, with Alternate Jazz and Fusion performances on 21st and 22nd June.

On 23rd June, treat yourself to College Night that brings together student musicians from six local universities. Band and piano masterclasses are also held on the third day of the festival, which lets the public watch how aspiring musicians take short lessons from masters for free.

4. MapleStorySEA’s Fantasy Dreamland at IOI City Mall

Relive the good ol’ days of MapleStory at MapleStorySEA‘s 19th Anniversary – Fantasy Dreamland at IOI City Mall. The free-admission offline event will be held for three days at the mall, so Maplers can meet fellow gamers and participate in games to win MapleStory merchandise. Other zones to explore include a MapleStory photobooth and an Art Street to create your own masterpiece.

Serious Maplers who want a full experience of the offline event can purchase RSVP packs, from SGD19 (~RM66). It includes MapleStory goodies like an eye mask, towel, and goodie bag, as well as exclusive in-game items, carnival credits, and a Mission Card that unlocks rewards for lucky Maplers.

5. Karma Yoga Rexperience at REXKL

While there are many affordable yoga studios in KL to get some zen time in, consider taking your next fitness sesh to REXKL for the Karma Yoga Experience. Hosted by the Karma Toga School, the experience lets yogis sit in silence while surrounded by otherworldly abstract projections.

Different yoga styles will be practiced depending on your date of visit. There’s Karama Vinyasa on 22nd June; Yin Yang on 7th July; Moksa Vinyasa on 25th August; and Sangha Vinyasa on 16th September. Each session lasts 90 minutes. You can book your spot here.

6. Symphonic Anime 5 at MPO

Much to the excitement of anime fans, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) is set to bring back its Symphonic Anime 5 for the fifth time. The 2-day concert will treat music and anime lovers alike to orchestral version of tunes from classic series such as Pokémon, Naruto, and Sailor Moon, to more recent hits like Spy x Family, Demon Slayer, and Your Name.

All tickets will include a light refreshment. Special discounts are also available for students (RM109/pax), while MyKad holders can enjoy 10% off and 15% off for senior citizens.

7. Japanese Photobook Exhibition at GMBB

Japanese photobooks go all the way back to the early 1900s – for the uninitiated, these books contain artistic photos from photographers. For shutterbugs and appreciator of aesthetic photos on their Instagram feeds, head to the Japanese Photobook Exhibition at GMBB.

Brought together by Tokyo-based LibroArte and Malaysia-based Zontiga, the exhibition will display over 50 Japanese photobooks, from renowned and upcoming photographers who have their works published by independent publishers in Japan.

8. Jujutsu Kaisen Experience at Pavilion Bukit Jalil


27th April to 20th July


The fun doesn’t seem to stop for anime fans. Following the footsteps of the Naruto exhibition at Pavilion Bukit Jalil is the Jujutsu Kaisen Experience pop-up event.

From 27th April to 20th July, the experience brings to Malaysian anime fans three areas: an anime-themed cafe called ACO Lab, a retail store with 120 exclusive Jujutsu Kaisen merch, and five photo zones that bring to life characters and sets from the dark fantasy anime.

The cafe will be a highlight. Desserts, beverages, and Japanese fusion dishes inspired by Jujutsu Kaisen will be served, such as a lobster roll called Blindfolded Gourmet’s Choice that’s inspired by Satoru Gojo.

Different packages are available, with unique inclusions. The most affordable RM20 package includes a Jujutsu Kaisen drink, access to the photo zones, and coaster and souvenir card freebies.

9. Attack On Titan: The Final Exhibition at Fahrenheit88

There have been a whole slew of anime exhibitions popping up in KL. One that you can visit till 21st July is the Attack On Titan exhibition that makes its way to Malaysia following its showing in neighbouring Singapore.

The exhibition will be held at Fahrenheit88 mall, with over 150 early sketches, illustrations, and never-before-seen drafts by the manga’s artist, Hajime Isayama, on display.

10. Piying Dream at REXKL


9th February to 6th September


REXKL has unleashed yet another stunning exhibition at its REXPERIENCE (RXPKL) immersive art gallery – Piying Dream. Welcoming visitors from now till 6th September, the immersive art show brings together the art of Chinese shadow play with vibrant projections.

During the show, you’ll come face-to-face with over 3,000 digitised shadow puppets that are projected on the walls to the floors of the venue.

[HYBE INSIGHT] The Daydream Believers: 꿈, 마침내

Stans of HYBE artists are in for a treat. The South Korean entertainment’s exhibition brand HYBE INSIGHT is bringing their portrait exhibition The Daydream Believers: 꿈, 마침내 to Malaysia this June.

The exhibition lets fans discover – or rediscover – the journey of K-pop’s biggest idol groups such as BTS, Seventeen, Le Sserafim, TXT, and Enhypen, by offering fans a glimpse of close-up portraits and behind-the-scenes stories of the artists.

Having made its debut in Seoul, followed by exhibitions in Tokyo and Taipei, since last year, the exhibition is scheduled to be held at LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre in KL from 1st July to 1st September.

All entry tickets will come with a photo ticket. Early bird tickets will be available from 5th-30th June.

Most art exhibitions are brought to you by a sole artist. The Creative Coupling group exhibition at PJ’s Temu House brings together imaginative artworks from three Malaysian couples: Amat-Binti, Esmond-Joanne, and Kimberley-Silas.

The works on display capture how each duo navigates individual expression and collaborative efforts within their relationships – that mundanity and emotional rollercoaster rides that come with having a partner.

The month of April is Autism Awareness Month. To celebrate diversity in our country and show your support for those on the spectrum, don your best blue apparel and visit Impossible Possible. This creative art exhibition at GMBB, which opens from now till 30th April, features artworks crafted by nine special needs children.

20th Apr-19th May – Sakura Festival



Naked Inc.’s Sakura Festival that was held at the Imperial Villa Nijo-jo Castle in Kyoto.

It’s time to bid farewell to all those FOMO feels from seeing cherry blossom snaps on your IG feed. Tokyo’s Naked Inc. is bringing to Malaysia a Sakura Festival from 20th April onwards at LaLaport BBCC.

The festival lets visitors immerse themselves in a world of cherry blossoms via illuminated installations that recreate the Sakura season in KL. It’ll also feature the first-ever projection mapping display in Malaysia too.

There’ll be a Sakura-themed market inside the mall on Level 4 every weekend, with workshops and games to check out after you’re done snapping pics at the installations.

26th-28th Apr – Anime Fest+ 2024

An event that never fails to bring out flocks of anime-loving Malaysians is Anime Fest+. Hosted by Comic Fiesta, the longest-running animation, comics, and games (ACG) convention in Malaysia, the 2024 edition is returning for a 3-day event at Tropicana Gardens Mall.

There’ll be artist, cosplayer, and doujin booths, as well as performances to watch and handicrafts to snag.

Admission: RM25/Fri and RM35 for Saturday and Sunday. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
