Potato Corner: Popular Filipino Snack Brand Opens Its First M’sia Outlet, With Viral Delicious Fries & Chicken Pops

Potato Corner at Sunway Pyramid, Selangor

It isn’t an overstatement when Potato Corner claims to serve the world’s best flavoured fries.

Founded in 1992, this renowned snack brand from the Philippines has over 1,800 outlets around the globe, shaking fries in countries including Australia, Thailand, and the United Kingdom.

So when it finally opened its first Malaysia outlet at Sunway Pyramid, it took the mall by storm. People flocked to the store and eagerly lined up for hours to sample the fries – ourselves included. So, here’s our review.

Fries & chicken pops with combo sets

The true origin of French fries is debatable – some say it is France for obvious reasons, while others suggest Belgium. But when it comes to making these deep-fried potato strips, Potato Corner has its take.

Beyond the traditional salt and pepper seasoning, their fries come in four different flavours: cheese, sour cream, BBQ, and chilli BBQ. Each batch is freshly prepared upon order and generously tossed in your selected seasoning powder.

While the shop takes their fries very seriously, they also make delicious bite-sized chicken pops with the same flavour selection.

You can order these snacks a la carte, available in five different sizes: Large (from RM6.50), Jumbo (from RM8.50), Mega (from RM10.50), Giga (from RM17.50), and Tera (from RM23.50).

The Combo Sets (from RM13.90) further come with drinks such as Lime Soda, Pepsi, and Mirinda Strawberry.

Starting from the size Mega, you can combine multiple flavours of either fries or chicken pops in a box. That being said, if settling down on a single flavour is tough for you, get the Tera box and savour all four seasonings.

Here’s our verdict

We thought of going big or going home but ultimately settled for a middle-ground choice: a Combo Set D (RM29.90). It includes one Mega fries and Mega chicken pops, alongside two lime sodas.

It was the most valuable pick for us as we got to try all four flavours – two for the fries and two for the chicken pops – without overstuffing ourselves.

When it comes to fries, we all have our personal preferences. In the case of Potato Corner’s fries, they had a soft and fluffy texture, suiting those who like their fries on the soggy side.

The Cheese fries tasted rich and cheesy without being overpowering. Meanwhile, the BBQ flavour was a classic with its sweet and smoky taste.

Most importantly, these fries didn’t leave us with a greasy aftertaste even when we downed multiple strips in one go.

We then moved on to the chicken pops, which had a crunchy exterior and were still very juicy inside.

However, the Sour Cream flavour didn’t quite come through as it lacked the much-anticipated tanginess.

On the contrary, the Chilli BBQ chicken pops were surprisingly good. The seasoning carried the right balance of sweetness and spiciness without taking down the chicken flavour.

Addictive snacks by Potato Corner from the Philippines

While both fries and chicken pops didn’t blow us away, they were still flavour-packed and addictive. We could see our future selves snacking on these treats while walking around the mall.

But, if we had to pick a favourite, it would be the chicken pops – simply because the meat gave us such a satisfying texture and we like our fries crispy.
