Queens Waterfront in Bayan Lepas, Penang
Now that we’re no longer cooped up at home, we Malaysians have been looking for more places to explore to satisfy our food cravings and retail therapy needs. If you’re in Penang, there’s a recently opened destination in Bayan Lepas to visit – Queens Waterfront.
This new lifestyle hub in town, comprising a mix of residential units and retail shops, features a variety of restaurants, including a hotpot restaurant from China set to open here soon. It is also home to 24-hour Korean convenience store CU and other retailers, if you’re coming here for more than just stunning views of the sea.
A new leisure hotspot with 52 retail shops
Located between Queensbay Mall and the vast sea, Queens Waterfront stretches along the bay of the Straits of Malacca – which means visitors can enjoy views of prominent Penang bridges even from inside the building.

The two-storey lifestyle hub comprises a total of 52 retail outlets, which will range from lifestyle retailers to seaside cafes and restaurants that faces Jerejak Island.
The design and structure of the building itself is pretty innovative and impressive – spot wavy walls, seahorse-shaped columns, and most interestingly, an undulating ‘stingray’ glass roof that greets visitors at the mall’s entrance.

As no leisure hotspot is complete without food haunts, Queens Waterfront hosts a myriad of restaurants that hungry Penangites and tourists alike can check out. There’s Chimac Station, a Korean chicken and beer restaurant where you can curb your fried chicken cravings the Korean way.
If you’re looking to try new restaurants, you’ll be delighted to know that hotpot restaurant Ye Fu Wooden Barrel Fish from Sichuan, China, will be opening their first outlet in Penang at Queens Waterfront. They are known for their unique way of serving steaming soup and hotpot ingredients – in a wooden barrel.

Visitors can also fill their bellies up at popular food outlets, such as Tealive and Bread History, which are both now open at Queens Waterfront. Many other eateries are expected to open here too.
Folks who live around the Bayan Lepas area will be pleased to know that they can now avoid traffic jams on their way into town for groceries. Village Grocer has opened their second outlet in Penang at Queens Waterfront, and it offers a wide selection of fresh produce and imported goods.
Another outlet that fans of Korean food will be excited about is CU, with its array of snacks such as odeng, tteokbokki, kimbap and cheesy corndogs available. Best of all, the convenience store’s new outlet at Queens Waterfront is open 24 hours, so you can snag a bunch of your favourite Korean snacks and sit by the bay to enjoy the sea views even at night.
Free zumba sessions are also held at 4PM on selected evenings by the Stingray entrance of the mall, and hosted by Zumba With Mervin And Ling Ling. With ocean views and the fresh breeze, it’ll be an invigorating workout session, for sure.

Though it may not be fully occupied with stores yet, take the opportunity to avoid the crowds at larger malls and grab a bite at the newly opened Queens Waterfront instead. With decent food choices and a walkway to stroll along the waterfront, this hub is poised to be another popular hangout spot in Penang.
