Rapid KL To Extend Train Peak Hours For Commuters During ASEAN Summit, Frequency Also Increased On Weekends

Rapid KL adjusts train operations for ASEAN Summit

In case you have yet to get the lowdown, the upcoming ASEAN Summit in Malaysia will see 6 highways and 25 major roads in Klang Valley closed temporarily at intervals from 23rd to 28th May 2025.

With Klang Valley commuters encouraged to rely on public transportation during this period, Rapid KL has announced significant adjustments to its rail operations, including extended peak operating hours and increased train frequency.

Peak hours extended & train frequency increased

To handle the increased demand for rides on public transport, Rapid KL will extend its morning and evening peak rail operating hours during the ASEAN Summit, as shared in a statement on Facebook dated 20th May.

The peak hours will be extended for an hour to give commuters more time to travel between home and their destination, and vice versa. Train services will operate from 6.30am to 10am, and from 4.30pm to 8pm.

The usual peak hours are 7am-9.30am and 5pm-7.30pm.

In addition to extended operating peak hours, the frequency of train operations will also be increased to keep up with the increased number of passengers. On the weekend of the ASEAN Summit, on 24th and 25th May, train intervals will be shortened to cater to the anticipated rise in passengers.

The Ampang/Sri Petaling route will run at a 4-minute frequency, while the Kelana Jaya route will run at a 5-minute frequency. The Monorail and the Kajang and Putrajaya lines will also see an increase of 8-minute frequency.

Rapid KL will intensify monitoring and operational control throughout the summit and will be ready to deploy additional trains if required. In addition, 400 extra staff will be stationed at selected rail stations to ensure smooth rides for passengers.

Delays expected on Rapid KL’s bus services

Those who rely on Rapid KL’s On-Demand routes will want to take note that delays are to be expected due to phased road closures during the summit period.

The affected bus routes include:

  • Route 402 (LRT Titiwangsa – LRT Maluri)
  • Route 302 (LRT Titiwangsa – KLCC)
  • Route 300 (Pandan Indah Hub – Lebuh Ampang)
  • Route 303 (Taman Mulia Jaya – Lebuh Ampang)
