Rapid KL driver helps elderly man on bus
For Malaysians who don’t drive, Rapid KL’s public transportation system is a crucial part of our day-to-day routine, helping us get around our cities. So we all know the familiar trials that come with it – from running to catch a bus to narrowly squeezing past closing train doors. But for senior citizens, a whole different set of challenges comes with trying to get around on buses and trains.
Showing that a helping hand goes a long way to the elderly community, a heartwarming video of a Rapid KL bus driver taking the time to patiently help an elderly uncle with a walking cane get on and off a bus in KL has gone viral online. Further showing that Malaysians are a compassionate bunch, another bus passenger also came out to assist the driver in getting the elderly uncle to the bus stop.
A helping hand to the elderly community
The video was shared by a netizen on Info Roadblock JPJ/Polis’s Facebook account on 18th October 2020, where it garnered over 8,000 reactions at the time of writing. The clip begins with a Rapid KL bus driver dressed in the company’s familiar yellow uniform helping an elderly pakcik get safely seated on the bus.
Going the extra mile, the bus driver makes sure that the pakcik is staying safe at this time with COVID-19 still a threat to our community by helping him properly wear his face mask over his nose. He also doesn’t return to the driver’s seat until the pakcik had his hands wrapped around the pole, in case of any unexpected bumps during the bus ride.

Once the bus stops at the pakcik‘s destination, the bus driver once again returns to the pakcik’s side to help him slowly make his way off the vehicle. And it’s no easy process, as the pakcik can only manage to take a few steps at a time.

Once the pakcik safely alights from the bus, another passenger on the bus is seen walking beside the pakcik and driver, who is seen dangerously walking backwards over a curb to get the pakcik off the road and to the safety of the bus stop.

But as walking seems to be a difficult task for the pakcik, the just-as-helpful passenger carefully lifts the pakcik over the curb with his arm wrapped around the pakcik’s waist and a gentle helping hand under his knees.
The whole process of getting the pakcik off the bus and to the safety of the bus stop took over a minute, but no one present had any complaints about the hold-up.
