Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) shooting incident
On 13th August 2021, a shooting incident was said to have taken place at a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) camp in Kota Samarahan, early this morning. Three RMAF personnel were pronounced dead following the shooting, with one severely injured and sent to Sarawak General Hospital Heart Centre for treatment before succumbing to his wounds.
The police have since identified three victims involved in the tragic incident. Initial police investigations show that the suspect behind the shooting is an RMAF corporal, who got hold of firearms at the camp and proceeded to open fire on his colleagues before taking his own life.
Three victims, one suspect, identified in RMAF shooting incident
According to a report from Bernama on 13th August, the three victims were Corporal Mohamad Ehsan Sehamat, Corporal Shariff Mohd Siddiq Al-Attas Wan Sabli, and Aircraftman Luk Nesly anak Nabau. They were confirmed as victims of the shooting incident by Samarahan Police Chief DSP Sudirman Kram following preliminary police investigations.
The suspect, Corporal Ho Swee Boon, is said to have shot himself after opening fire on his fellow RMAF personnel around 7.50AM. He was one of four RMAF personnel pronounced dead in initial reports, as reported by Harian Metro.
Early investigations showed that several RMAF personnel were on duty at a guard station during the time of incident. The suspect, having managed to acquire firearms there, proceeded to threaten his comrades in a rage and even asked if they wanted to “live or die”.
There were attempts by one of the corporals to placate the suspect. However, he was later shot in the abdomen and died of the wound.
Police investigations are still ongoing, and the public is advised against making speculations. An investigation board will commence to look into the cause of the shooting.
Update: The Sarawak police have also released a statement on the incident on 13th August. According to a report by The Borneo Post, authorities are classifying the recent shooting incident as a murder and is investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
