Rocky Farm in Ipoh, Perak
Accommodations are merely a roof to sleep under for some travellers. But if you consider unique stays part of the fun of travelling, you might want to look out for places such as Rocky Farm in Ipoh.
Nestled in a hilly forest, this retreat has themed accommodations, including seashell-shaped and Japanese-style rooms. There are also fishing activities and a serene garden, in addition to scenic views of nearby mountains, so you can take a break from the everyday stresses of life, here in nature.
Secluded retreat with Japanese-style homes
Tucked within the mountains of Ipoh, Perak, is Rocky Farm – a therapeutic retreat surrounded by lush greenery. It’s run by a retired couple, who were inspired to build various themed rooms in a secluded area, so they could continue to ‘travel’ while retiring by a peaceful hillside.

For those looking for a staycay with overseas vibes, Rocky Farm and its various themed accommodations scattered around an emerald-green pond is open to guests too.
If you wish to travel to Japan without a passport, there are several Japanese-style rooms at Rocky Farm. These accommodations are inspired by a ryokan – or a traditional Japanese inn – with its wooden exterior. Inside, you’ll find comfortable, modern furnishings including a large bed and a TV.
Surrounding these rooms is a Japanese-inspired garden with picturesque trees that adds to the zen vibes here.
Seashell-inspired homes and European villas
Another themed accommodation here is the Little Mermaid House – a wonderfully whimsical room with a ‘seashell’ roof. It’s reminiscent of this Seashell House in Mexico that has been enthralling mermaid fans around the world.
There are two pristinely white seashell rooms at Rocky Farm that stand out amidst the lush greenery – one of them is a kitchen, and the other is a sanctuary with a comfortable bed and minimal decor items for guests to spend a night in.
You can also travel back in time by checking in at their European-style brick villa. These no-frills, yet comfortable and homey, rooms inside the castle-inspired building let guests have the experience of staying in a countryside cottage.
As the owners are particular about the privacy and safety of their guests, a booking must be made before your visit. Prices for a night’s stay ranges from RM168 to RM350. They have a selection of 10 rooms to choose from – five Castle Rooms, four Japanese Rooms, and one The Little Mermaid room.
Activities in nature
While you’re here, you can also check out various laid-back activities in the great outdoors.
Try your hand at fishing in the scenic pond, hike through a nearby forest, or simply stroll along the garden area at Rocky Farm to sip up the serenity of the secluded retreat.
Those looking for a magical backdrop for events or photoshoots will be pleased to know that Rocky Farm also opens their space up for such purposes – but do ensure you contact the owners prior to visiting.
