Selangor Hikers Must Apply For Permits Online From 1st April, Here’s How To Do So

Forest reserve permits in Selangor go online

It’s the end of physical queues and paperwork for nature lovers in Selangor. Starting 1st April 2025, those planning an outdoor excursion at a forest reserve can apply for their permits online via the Selangor Forestry e-Permit System (SeForest).

The new online platform introduced by the Selangor Forestry Department is designed to ease the process of obtaining permits for recreational and hiking activities in the state’s permanent forest reserves.

What are the benefits of the new e-Permit system?

SeForest was announced by the Selangor Forestry Department, or Jabatan Perhutanan Negeri Selangor (JPNS), on their website on 20th March 2025. With the shift to the new digital system, hikers in Selangor can plan their hikes easily, as permits can be applied and paid for at home.

All permit applications must be submitted at least 48 hours before a planned visit, with payments to be made within 24 hours after receiving approval. Here are some of the permanent forest reserves that are under the department’s jurisdiction:

  • Taman Eko Rimba Ampang
  • Taman Eko Rimba Gabai
  • Taman Eko Rimba Gunung Nuang
  • Taman Eko Rimba Kanching
  • Taman Eko Rimba Komenwel
  • Taman Eko Rimba Kota Damansara
  • Taman Eko Rimba Sungai Chongkak
  • Taman Eko Rimba Sungai Sendat
  • Taman Eko Rimba Sungai Tekala
  • Taman Eko Rimba Sungai Tua
  • Taman Eko Rimba Templer

For the uninitiated, entering a permanent forest reserve without a permit is considered a serious offense in Malaysia. Violaters are at risk of facing fines of up to RM30,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both. Therefore, hikers must adhere to the new regulations to avoid legal consequences.

The new online process will also help to regulate hiking activities, which is essential for protecting the fragile ecosystems within these forest reserves. The number of visitors to a forest reserve varies between 150-300 per day, depending on capacity. It also allows for better tracking of visitors, which can help authorities locate missing hikers more efficiently.

How to apply for a permit on SeForest

The application process for an e-permit on SeForest is straightforward and can be completed from anywhere. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  • Access the website: Visit the official Selangor Forestry Department website and navigate to the SeForest section.
  • Sign up or log in: If you don’t have an account, register for one using your email or phone number, full name, username, and password. Existing users can log in directly.
  • Choose date and location: Select the relevant district forestry office and your desired hiking location along with the date of your activity. Applications must be submitted at least 48 hours before the activity date or no later than one month in advance.
  • Check application details: Ensure all details, including the date, location, and district forestry office, are correct before submitting the application.
  • Make payment: Once approved, payment must be made within 24 hours using online banking (FPX).
  • Confirmation: After payment, the permit (Borang 6) can be printed or accessed via a QR code.

Do note that the application link will only be available on the Selangor Forestry Department website from 1st April onward.
