Stargazing spots in Malaysia
There’s something almost magical about stepping away from the city lights, lying back, and letting the sky take centre stage, and Malaysia has more than its fair share of stargazing spots where the stars really shine.

1. Kota Belud, Sabah

Nestled in Sabah’s countryside, Kota Belud offers incredibly dark skies and few distractions. Places like Lasau Podi are far enough from the city to let the stars burst out. On clear nights you might see meteor showers or that shimmering river-of-light we call the Milky Way.
2. Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, Kudat, Sabah

Tanjung Simpang Mengayau is where the northernmost tip where land meets sea, the horizon is wide and the sky is impressively dark. With minimal light pollution, you can watch stars mirror in the ocean. Perfect after dusk when the world quiets down and the sky takes over.
3. Kuala Kubu Bharu (KKB), Selangor

Just an hour or so outside KL, Kuala Kubu Bharu is an accessible getaway for city folk in need of starry nights. Dams, hills, or even quiet riverbanks here serve up great vantage points. Bring friends, a blanket, maybe even a telescope, and let the night sky take over.

Up in the hills, cooler air and elevation noticeably reduce the glare of city lights, Fraser’s Hill is lush and peaceful, making it ideal for evenings under a sky peppered with stars. The climate here adds a crisp brightness that makes the heavens pop.

Pulau Gema is a secluded island, featuring minimal lights, ocean sounds and a sky so open you can just stare up forever. It is also brilliant for combining beach time and stargazing where time slows down and it’s just you, the waves and stars.

Sekinchan offers unobstructed views of the sky, especially just as it turns fully dark. With wide open rice fields, flat land, and a few tall buildings, here’s where you lay out under the stars with snacks and fresh air with your gang.
7. Setiu and Pantai Meran, Terengganu

Setiu offers great stretches of nature and beaches, while Pantai Merang has spots with limited light pollution. The UniSZA Observatory nearby helps if you want a guided or more scientific experience.

Teluk Bahang has quieter beaches and lookout points away from the busiest paths. When the skies are clear, you’ll be rewarded with stellar views and fresh night air.

Beaches around Mersing such as Teluk Buih and Tanjung Penyabong are far enough from big light sources to give brilliant night skies. Pair it with camping or staying in a simple chalet, and you’ve got yourself a great escape under constellations.
