Tecoma Trees Blooming In Pink & White Around Malaysia Is Our Very Own Peak “Sakura” Season

Tecoma trees in bloom across Malaysia

This time of the year is when travellers usually look forward to heading to Japan or Korea for breathtaking photos of blooming cherry blossoms. But it looks like we don’t have to look or travel too far for a glimpse of them this year, as Malaysians have been sharing stunning photos of tecoma trees with pink and white flowers reminiscent of cherry blossoms, or sakura, that are now in full bloom across different corners of the nation.

Trees are not hard to find in Malaysia. But come the months of February, March and April, you’ll see tecoma trees blooming pink and white flowers by the roadside and in parks that have made them popular attractions in states such as Kedah and Penang.

For the uninitiated, tecoma trees – also called trumpet bushes or trees – are small, flowering trees found in Malaysia that are commonly called “tissue paper trees” by locals for the frail, paper-thin flowers that often bloom and fall from them.

They are also known to bloom on defoliating trees, when the weather is hottest, and take on dreamy pink, white, as well as purple and yellow, shades.

But Kedah and Penang aren’t the only states with these trees. Malaysians have been sharing all their best shots of these trees in full bloom in other corners of Malaysia as well.
