Teen couldn’t claim late mum’s body due to unpaid bills
Malaysians are quick to help those struggling to make ends meet. This was especially highlighted lately, with many generously reaching out to those hard hit by the devastating effects of the pandemic and the recent floods.
The struggles of fellow Malaysians who find it hard to cope with day to day living can be incredibly painful to watch at times. Take this teen for example, who was unable to claim his late mother’s body from a hospital due to outstanding medical bills.
Thankfully, his problems were noticed by some good Samaritans, so help came at the right time.
Malaysians donate money to settle medical bills
On 3rd January 2021, Kuan Chee Heng, also famously known as Uncle Kentang, shared the sad story of an 18-year-old who was unable to claim his late’s mum body from a hospital due to unsettled medical bills.
In a Facebook post that has garnered over 34,000 reactions and more than 1,400 shares, Uncle Kentang explained that the teen who lost his mother recently was helpless as he was alone at the hospital not knowing what to do.

“Because her medical bills were unpaid, the hospital didn’t allow him to claim her body. They wanted him to at least pay half the bills before he could claim her body,” he wrote.
Uncle Kentang, who runs a charitable organisation, rushed to the teen’s aid once he was notified of the situation. The struggling teen found light in the darkness, as Uncle Kentang and his team were able to settle the medical bills with donations they received from Malaysians.
The teen, who has a 20-year-old brother, lives in a rented room at SS15 in Subang Jaya with the rest of his family. Uncle Kentang also mentioned that the boy was greatly thankful for the help he received from everyone.

He added that the teenager dreams of studying computer science and will be applying for a PTPTN loan to enrol in INTI International College Subang.
However, on 11th January 2022, Uncle Kentang updated his Facebook page that the teen’s education will be fully sponsored by a Malay woman, whose identity is kept anonymous.
The kind-hearted lady is said to undertake several charitable acts where she helps the poor often. Uncle Kentang said in his post, that INTI International University will also be giving a special discount on tuition fees for the teen once they got to know his situation.
Teen gets help from Malaysians with mum’s medical bills
It’s heartwarming to know that Malaysians are constantly on the lookout for struggling individuals, and are always willing to offer a helping hand where it’s needed. We extend our condolences to the teen, and hope his mother’s soul rests in peace while he prepares to face the next chapter of his life.
