Terra Tree House: Immerse In Nature With Scenic Rainforest Views & Trekking Activities In Cameron Highlands

Terra Tree House in Cameron Highlands

If you have ever wanted to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life in Malaysia for a day or two, treehouse hotels are a good bet. Offering a cosy environment, they provide a tranquil experience for visitors to recharge and immerse themselves in nature.

One such hotel on the list is Terra Tree House in Cameron Highlands. The lodging is an eco-friendly accommodation with a focus on sustainable living. As such, you can expect basic amenities and a chance to just bask in the natural environment on the highland.

Nestled among greenery, Terra Tree House offers an immersive nature experience, with picturesque views of the forest and the neighbouring Terra Forest Farm.

Upon arrival at the entrance, be prepared for a mini-workout as you will need to do a 10-15min hike from the entrance up the hill before reaching your accommodation. Hence, we recommend that you pack a lightweight backpack and avoid bringing trolley luggage. At this altitude, temperatures can go as low as 12°C during the rainy season, so you’ll want to pack warm clothes and jackets too.

The hotel has 7 tree houses and visitors can choose between two types of accommodation: the traditional bamboo treehouse with a separate bathroom located just outside, or the newly built wooden treehouse which comes with an attached bathroom. Some rooms also have mosquito nets.

Prices range from RM800/house for 1-2 visitors, which works out to be RM400/pax. If you are coming in a group of 3, prices start from RM360/pax. You can enjoy cheaper rates from RM330/pax when you go in a group of 5 or more, so you might want to gather some friends to head up here together. These prices include two-way transport up the highland to the hotel, daily meals and activities.

While the hotel’s amenities are mostly basic, there are a few tree houses that come with bathtubs, if you are willing to splurge a little more.

There is also a main activity hall where you will have your meals and you can even try your hand at cooking in the common kitchen.

The hotel serves organically grown meals sourced from their farm. Dishes differ, depending on the day’s harvest. Water supply is directly sourced from a clean mountain stream, and if you want, they can provide boiled drinking water as well.

The hotel only provides electricity from 6.30PM to 10.30PM and there is no Wi-Fi, which means that you will not be able to scroll through your Instagram or Facebook feeds before bedtime.

Despite the lack of electricity, the bathrooms do come with water heaters powered by gasoline which can be used at any time of the day, so you won’t have to worry about having to take cold showers in the highlands.

Visit a farm & go trekking

Terra Tree House offers a variety of farm and trekking activities. Take a short farm visit to the Terra Forest Farm, and learn more about how the ingredients for the meals you have here are sourced.

You can also go on a trek through the forest and be rewarded with views of a breathtaking waterfall at the end of the trail. The trek is estimated to take 30 minutes for a one-way journey.

If you are up for a more adventurous experience, you can choose to embark on another trail, which is more challenging due to the steepness of the terrain. Expect to spend at least 2 hours to complete the roundabout walk through the forest.

Let’s say that visiting a farm and trekking sounds too tedious for you – you can opt to remain in your treehouse accommodation to relax as well. Take this opportunity to just be in your own quiet space away from your smartphones and appreciate the natural environment instead.
