What is The Apothecary Diaries?

In a story heavily influenced by the Tang Dynasty in China, the series follows Maomao, a young girl with a peculiar affinity for poison, who is trained by her apothecary father. While employed at the imperial palace, she unravels mysteries and quells palace court rumours in the Emperor’s service, unearthing hidden truths in the process along with the enigmatic eunuch, Jinshi.
Exhibition opens in KL for 50 days
In October 2025, it was revealed that The Apothecary Diaries Exhibition will embark on a tour across several Asian cities, with stops in Hong Kong, China, Taipei, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and more. Before this announcement, the exhibition was exclusively held in Japan, in Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka, between March and September.
For its KL edition, the exhibition opens at Incubase Arena in Fahrenheit88 from 23rd May to 12th July 2026, for 50 days.
What to expect at The Apothecary Diaries Exhibition
The Apothecary Diaries Exhibition in KL is split into several halls with well-utilised walls. Various displays flesh out the behind-the-scenes process of illustrating the anime and the characters, while recreations bring to life the characters and anime scenes for longtime and newer fans.
A good bulk of the exhibition draws upon printed media that contain easter eggs of the series.
There are over 250 copies of original artworks displayed, including sketches and costume designs that show how characters like Maomao, Jinshi, and even the four imperial consorts come to life on screen.
Joining these are backdrop artworks that highlight the intricate details that go into illustrating the anime’s settings, down to the way that flowers are illustrated in 2D and the play of light that reflects the characters’ emotions. Also on display are storyboards and artboards that set the foundation for memorable scenes in the series.
More immersive displays, including costume and set recreations, let fans delve deeper into the series offline. The set recreations double as photo spots, with visitors welcomed to step into the poison-tasting scene at the Garden Party and challenge themselves to a game of Go.
