There’s An Elevator Photobooth In Subang Jaya For High-Angle Squad Photos With Your Besties

The Film in SS15, Subang Jaya

While our phones all have cameras with plenty of storage space today, the charms of having a printed photo as a keepsake remain – especially when we’re posing for a photo at themed photobooths, a favourite pastime among the Gen MZ crowd.

Over at The Film’s branch in Subang Jaya, there’s a unique elevator-themed, self-serve photobooth that’s a first in Klang Valley. If studio-quality photos with your bestie or squad are long overdue, they also have a corner of funky accessories that’ll help you achieve that cool or kawaii vibe in photos.

Viral elevator-style photobooth in Malaysia

The elevator-themed photobooth looks legit from the outside too.

The Film has outlets in Kuala Lumpur and Johor, but their outlet in SS15, Subang Jaya, is the only one with an elevator-themed photobooth. The realistic photobooth is complete with skid-proof aluminum floor, burnished walls, a mirror, a handrail, and even faux floor buttons – but the only thing you’ll be doing inside the “elevator” is striking your best pose.

The photos at this photobooth will be taken from an elevated “CCTV camera” perspective, pun intended.

The other popular photobooth here is the High Angle.

This photobooth takes head-to-toe shots from a flattering top-down angle, with a deep-red backdrop that will further make you pop in the printed photos. It’s slightly smaller than the Elevator, and will work best for photos with your SO or bestie – or epic solo shots, if you need a new PFP.

If you need a selfie or wefie inspiration to elevate your go-to peace sign and finger hearts, The Film has a wall with group photo examples and printed shots left behind by creative customers. Take a look at them to see if you can recreate any of the poses with your squad.

How the photobooth works

Prices start from RM20 for two printed strips, and you have to insert cash into the photobooth you opt for. If you don’t have any on you, you can make an online transfer to The Film and they’ll give you the total amount you’ve paid in hard cash in return.

You can take a total of eight shots in the photobooth, which you can narrow down to the four best ones to be printed after. There’s a countdown of 8 seconds before each camera click, so if you’re not a born-natural selfie-taker, you might just want to prep your poses beforehand.

Mirrors are conveniently placed around the store, outside the photobooth, so you can practise your poses.

Once you’ve selected your best pictures to print, you’ll get a few options of frames and designs to choose from: 4-cut vertical, poster frame, or a basic 4-cut strip. You can further level up your photo strip by adding on stickers and more.

While you wait for your pictures to be printed, you can scan the QR code on the photobooth screen to download your photos digitally. On each photo strip is a QR code as well, which lets you digitally save a behind-the-scenes video version of your time in the photobooth.

Variety of funky accessories & K-pop costumes

Before you step into a photobooth, you’ll want to head to the Accessory corner, where a variety of hair clips, hats, sunglasses, and headbands are displayed on shelves. The range is pretty impressive – whether you want to cosplay a princess or a bride, there are wands and veils to don.

Depending on the vibe you’re going for in your photos, you’ll have your pick from a variety of sunglasses for more cool, serious shots and furry character-themed headbands for more goofy, kawaii pictures.

If you happen to show up in shorts and slippers, as your partner-in-crime suddenly wants spontaneous photos, there’s even a K-pop Dress Zone that will have you picture-ready. Browse through a rack of jackets that you can throw over your ‘fit, to live out your K-pop dreams.

The Accessory corner also has complimentary tools to help you freshen up, such as a hair straightener and hair dryer. Several big mirrors are placed around the area too, for you to touch up your makeup or adjust your accessories.
